Hello, I am a recently retired university professor. Years ago, I grew up shooting .22s and shotguns with my Dad in New Mexico. I have real respect for our 2nd Amendment rights and have become more and more concerned about the conditions of our country and the over-reaching Federal Government.

Two incidents recently brought me up short.

First was a break-in where all of my clothes, billfold, car keys, credit cards, etc. were stolen out of my gym locker by a young drug addict punk. I, fortunately, stayed on the police and remarkably, they caught the guy and actually recovered most of my items. He is now in jail. By my being really persistent, the police went around and immediately got pictures from the places he used my credit cards. The police were great and were happy to help me.

Second happened about two months ago, where I was confronted in a downtown parking lot by a pretty rough looking man who demanded that I give him some money. I was close enough to my car that I jumped in, locked the doors, and drove away. I realized how badly the situation could have turned out. There was no one around to help me and I had no way to defend myself. I have resolved to no longer be a victim.

11/10/2011 - Purchased Springfield Armory XD Sub-Compact 9mm

12/12/2011 - CHL On-line Application Completed
12/14/2011 - L1 Fingerprinting Completed
12/14/2011 - CHL Application Mailed Registered Mail
12/15/2011 - Application Received by DPS Austin, TX

In January, I plan to take Defensive Shooting and Awareness Classes.

I would like to thank all the great members of texaschlforum. I am getting a great education reading your posts.

I love retirement and at the age of 68 learned a whole new skill of shaving with a straight razor just for the fun of it. Now I am going to learn how to properly shoot a handgun and defend myself. Wish me luck.

Ouch! C'mon now brother. Some are born "not yankee," and others are made "not yankee." Anybody on this forum is my brudda from another mudda. :smilelol5:

ITTECH, welcome to the forum. Question.... did you have your carry license in Georgia?

Hi.

I am soon-to-be 63 years old and am a university professor. I teach IT and work in IT security and in counter electronic-crime.
At last check, I am in waiting for background check status for my CHL. I live in Central Texas. My wife reminds me that we have been married for forty years

No CHL while I lived in Georgia. Didn't think about until I got older, moved to TEXAS and starting a Family... Not sure why, we had more problems when I lived there, than here. Why do you ask?

Hi Everyone :tiphat: ,
I have newly joined the forums but I have been reading them for quite some time now. I found them when researching the Texas CHL requirements. What I found was so much more than rules. I was Switzerland. I wasn't for gun control and neither was I against it. I lived in the dark about gun issues and even now I'm still learning. I (much like many people) was herded by the media who tainted my perception about guns by planting images of "gun evil". A home invasion about 3 years ago was the wake up call that I needed to open up my eyes and learn about the truth behind gun control. I couldn't believe I was dooped for so long. For those of you that may not be sure, I'm against gun control and for the 2nd ammendment. I thank you for helping to educate me and others on this important issue as well as the many firearm/carry topics. I hope to be communicating with you more in the future.

Here's my timeline for CHL:
12/10 CHL Class
12/10 Online Application
12/14 Fingerprints
12/16 Mailed Packet
12/19 Delivery Confirmation
12/21 DPS updated BG check under review
