He's been very assertive about calling DPS, state reps, etc. Maybe that worked out to help!

I didnt want to sound like an arrogant jerk, that is why my post was so short.
Call your State Rep. or State Senator, and you dont have to live in their district, just find one that is willing to help.
Be really nice. Here is an example.
"Hi my name is ________ I wanted to call and thank the Senator for working so hard during this last session and I appreciate all that he or she does for the State of Texas, by the way I am having trouble getting my CHL back in a reasonable amount of time, and I know that Harris County has been working overtime to get background checks out, but that seems to be where the hange up is, is there anything I can do to help expedite this process"
Been doing this a long time. No favors were pulled for me, I just know how to work the State agencies.
Its not always going to work the first time but you just have to keep at it and call as many folks as possible.
Just be polite and go overboard thanking the staff.
One quick note some Politicians are not geared to help you in this matter, some are, you just have to find the right one.
I called seven Reps before it was over and to be honest I couldnt tell you which one made the difference but somebody did.
God's Speed.

Who'd you Call? DPS? or your senator?
Most Senator Offices I've talked to have been nothing but friendly, so you probably called DPS
Start callin Senators.

Dont call DPS. You need to call your state rep or state Senator.
When I say I called 7 reps, I was calling 7 differnt State Representatives and State Senators.

Military in another state

Anyone have any idea how DPS does things for the military? Do they check each of my resident addresses over the last 5 years? I'm a Texas resident, but really haven't lived in the state for 11 years. My home of record is in Hays County. I'm currently stationed in Kansas. Over the last 5 years, I've been in Iraq, Georgia and Oklahoma. App mailed 4 APR, recieved by DPS 7 APR, and got my PIN 18 May. Currently "Processing Application". It amazes me that I have a Top Secret Clearance, a Class III tax stamp for a suppressor, more finger prints on file than I'd like and have to wait this long for my CHL....

I've been pretty patient so far, but now that my wife has had her CHL in hand for a week now after having submitted her application 1.5 weeks after me, I'm starting to get impatient.
I've been checking every day now as opposed to once a week before.
I can't imagine why she should get done any faster than me.
I'll probably give it another week and then start calling senators.

Well...you guys are going to be jealous...looks like DPS wanted to give me a birthday present
My personal guess is that they wanted to get it done before my b-day. Here is the timeline:
Hood County
CHL Class: 4.11.09
Packet Mailed: 4.14.09
Packet Received: 4.16.09
PIN Received: Who Knows
Application Approved: 7.2.09 (could have been sooner, haven't checked in like 4 or 5 days)
Total time between packet received and known approval: 78 days
My guess is the plastic will arrive on Saturday if they are quick or Monday for my b-day! What an awesome present...guess the gun needs to go higher up on the fun purchase list. Didn't think this would get here so quick.

Congratulations!
I can see myself getting more and more anxious as other June applicants get their CHLs. I'm not even in Harris county!

I just had to call DPS....I called them and to my surprise I was told my license was approved and it's being sent to be printed and issued.
The website still says "Processing Application" so I guess it's a little out of date.

Congrats! I don't think your status will change until it actually gets printed. I believe the status changes very shortly before they actually mail it to you because I thought I remember them mentioning that it can take a few weeks once they send it to the printer.
You know it's kind of funny. I actually felt my heart sink a bit when I saw it was already approved. I think I actually kind of wanted it to approve after my b-day so I could get the full 5 years out of it...oh well...I'm just happy it is on its way now!
