Big Beautiful Bill passes and will be sent to Trump for signature on July 4, 2025, the 249 th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
Happy Independence Day!!
Although it would have been better if suppressors and SBR's were removed from the NFA, there should be a surge in purchases of suppressors and more conversions of AR pistols to SBR's now that there is no longer a $200 tax owed.
Will be interesting to see what the anti-gunners will do to block this legislation from taking effect. I'm sure there's a few hundred willing district judges who are willing to issue a nationwide injunction despite the recent slapdown by SCOTUS.

As a reminder the nationwide injunctions have primarily been to enjoin executive orders. This will be legislation passed by Congress and signed into law by POTUS. It will be much harder to argue that a law (as opposed to an executive order) is "unlawful."

This bill sets up a court case to do away with the NFA completely, thanks to the Senate Parliamentarian. The Byrd rule says that only things dealing with a tax or spending may be handled by reconciliation (this makes sense because you are trying to reconcile the budget). The original House passed bill did say that the NFA no longer applied to SBAs and suppressors. The Parliamentarian said they could change the tax rate but not remove the items completely because the registration was not part of the tax.
All of this makes sense, EXCEPT that SCOTUS has ruled in the past that the entire NFA was constitutional because it was a tax. No tax means the registration part is not legal. GOA said they have the lawsuit ready to file as soon as the bill is signed. I think they will probably wait until tomorrow, but that will be soon enough.
I think I have this correct, but you can review it on GOA's web site to be sure.
