Just spoke to me neighbor......he's in the Academy for Dallas PD and he asked their instructors about carrying in a Post Office by a CHL holder. Their position on a civilian CHL holder carrying in a Post Office is that it is entirely within our rights to carry there. They're the ones I would need to worry about.........so looks like I'll be carrying there from now on.

Good spirited discussion - For me…I’m not planning to put this to the test over a package drop off or to purchase a book of stamps…Can’t afford to pay the lawyer bills right now…Hope you don’t read about me in the news “Rich was in the Post Office buying stamps when the ex mail room worker went postal...

Are they really? As it's federal property, I'd think it'd be a postal inspector? What role does local PD really have at a post office? Do they defer to a postal inspector or anyone else? (Really asking as I don't know!)

I went to the Post Office yesterday, and though I had done no real homework on the subject, left the gun in the console.
I guess I'm not really ready to go to court over it either!

The question is not if it is a state law violation, rather is it a Federal Law violation. Since Non Federal LEO's cannot enforce federal laws, it is moot to ask non federal LEO.

So, if I understand correctly, it would take a federal officer to enforce the law there? Does each post office have an officer in their facility? There sure alot of interesting things to discuss.

Just got off the phone with the post office manager in Plano and I was told that firearms are not permitted in the "federal facility". I had to explain to him what a CHL was, so who knows................guess it depends on who we talk to.
Looks like I'm back to where i started.

Of course IANAL but I took TX's stand on this one. The only way anyone will know I have a handgun in the post office is when I pull it. At that point it will be the least of my worries.

Don't expect any satisfactory answers from anyone who works for USPS.
This issue is just like paying income taxes. No one working for the IRS ever seems able to cite any law that requires individuals to file income tax reports. They are unable to provide a definition of "income" that applies to wages. But if you don't file and/or don't pay, they're coming after you. In the end, the law is what the men with badges and guns, plus the judges, say that it is. They all "know" that "everyone knows that you are required to file and pay taxes".
Just like they "know" that "everyone knows firearms are banned from federal grounds".
I'm comfortable with when, where, and how I carry (or don't) on federal property or in "federal facilities". I don't advise anyone else to do the same.

I just take my pistol out of my holster, and leave it in under the seat. I'm in and out so fast that the chances of something going down while I'm there is astronomical so I don't mind. Of course the two places that are public that I spend the vast majority of my time (work and school) I can't go armed anyway so maybe I'm just conditioned to going without.
