I would love for my wife to be able to have CHL written all over her clothing.
I believe that the reason that we cannot do this is because of the fear and ignorance of the left, general public, LEO, (and don't give me grief over LEO because CHLs can/do get arrested from LEOs who've never heard of a CHL or a 30.06 sign [they do exists]) and antis in general. It is sad that I have to keep something that is perfectly legal a secret to avoid scrutiny, when getting the word out might save me and my family from attacks.

I remember someone on this board recently saying that an establishment in his area has a non-compliant no guns sign and he likes to occasionally carry his guns in there just out of defiance. I imagine someone who is decked out in CHL sash and hat and whatnot would likewise attract attention that would not have been invited had the person blended in more inconspicuously.
Particularly if I was alone in a scary area, I would not want to make others think I have a CHL both because it could be taken as a challenge to one-up me and because the element of surprise would not be on my side as the bad guy introduced himself by trying to disarm me.

OH MAN!!! I have read that magazine...It was 1980 since I last saw one. LOL...I have not thought of that magazine in years. I think I remember hearing about a murder for hire plot where someone found a guy advertising in the classifieds of SOF. Thanks for the memories.

Police officer's don't fixate on the badge, but on the gun. Fratricide is a pretty big problem in law enforcement, which is one reason that officers don't actively get involved in off duty incidents. They will observe and if it doesn't look like someone is going to get killed they remain a witness.
As for Erik Scott getting shot in LV. I don't know anymore than what has been said in the media, and we all know how accurate they are in their reporting, but I find it unusual that all three officers fired. Could they have screwed up? yes, but what makes more sense is that they all believed Mr. Scott was a threat for what ever reason. I also find it odd that he was carrying two guns. When I worked the street as a patrol officer I carried two guns, much to the chagrin of my chief. I never carried two when off duty or in plain clothes. Obviously something went very wrong who ever screwed up. Once all of the investigation is over there will be an after action report that will be very good reading.
The key to concealed carry, stating the obvious, is not only do not let anyone see your weapon, but let the casual observer not even see you. Don't stand out in a crowd. Don't stand out when alone. Appear as if you belong where ever you are at. As silly as it seems, become stealthy. Spies blend in, so should CHL holders.
Also a recommendation is if you think something is about to go messed up, then dial 911 and let the dispatcher have an ongoing narrative from your point of view with your description. When the dispatchers tell the responding officer that the "Complainant" is wearing XYZ, the officer is less likely to identify you as the bad guy in need of being shot. Since 911 tapes are recorded it will be to your advantage to have that on the record.

Really? I have lost track of the number of times I've been on the line, ready to shoot on command, when someone jumps the gun and, hearing the shot, several other shooters also fire early. If that can happen in the controlled environment of a square range, it's not difficult for me to imagine something similar happening on the street, where things are chaotic and you're not facing an inanimate piece of paper.

I will never be convinced that a bad guy would attack an individual because he is armed. Irrefutable numbers have established that the vast majority of criminals are lazy, cowardly, and above all non-suicidal. Now the thing about non-compliant signs goes back to my frustration of the ignorance of the antis, and the left, who invite criminals with their no guns policies.

In my experience that depends entirely on how you come across to a BG. If they see that you are armed and not confident in yourself they certainly might try to take advantage of it. If they don't see you are armed but are most certainly confident the opposite tends to apply.
There are all kinds of good guys and all kinds of bad guys in my world.

You know, over the years I've seen a lot of "plain clothes" LEOs and the first thing I noticed was their weapon, then their badge. I see the badge and I figure they are a cop. But honestly, in order to read the text on that badge I'd have to get relatively close to the person and get my eyes level with their belt line, and I'm not keen on invading someone's personal space like that.
The text on the badge could have read "Micky Mouse Bail Enforcement" and I would never know.

You are clearly missing two of the other known clues, a shaved head and Oakley sunglasses.

What does "IFF" stand for in the context of this thread?
Identification Friend or Foe. It is an acronym borrowed from avionics systems in military aircraft (called IFF) that, literally, identifies friendly aircraft to other friendly aircraft.

If you've got something to say, say it; otherwise don't quote me.

And yes I am guilty of believing that a criminal will behave like me and that is never a safe assumption. I've often thought that I would like open carry for my wife and concealed for me; kinda' like a female jogger walking a rottweiler, instead of a vicious chihuahua in her purse.

I hope this isn't a hijack, but I've given consideration to the idea of a serious lawn sign with window stickers that indicate that I will shoot intruders. I think, if it worked, it would be ideal, because it is my goal to never draw or fire on a threat. I guess that is really my attitude toward personal protection, I want to make the potential threats aware of my strengths so I will never have to use them.
