I don't recall a distance requirement. I think you may be referring to before the laws were changed regarding Gun-Free zones.
I believe you mean "victim zones"

If the school is private, the 30.06 sign is valid. Depending on the location of the sign (parking lot for example) the property could be off limits for you.
I don't recall any limit of restrictions on non-public schools. I believe the term used in the law is "educational institution"

A public school district (Plano for instance) can post their parking lots. A person would not be in violation of the law if they carried past it (assuming TX CHL), because it is a government entity.
A private school could post their parking lot and that same person carrying past the sign would be guilty of a Class A misdemeanor.
The premises of both is statutorily off limits. Outside of the premises, depends on who owns the property - the school or the taxpayers.

I just want to update on this.
Today, I noticed that the parking lot entrance has a 30.06 sign. I have no idea how I didn't notice it before. I guess I was looking for one closer to the building or at the building entrance. I then drove and saw the same sign posted in the parking lot entrance to other schools so I guess it's a Plano ISD thing.

From a legal standpoint they are invalid. A 30.06 sign posted on public property.

Also, 30.06 signs do not apply to you while you are in your vehicle.

And before anyone argues, no, you do not have to be carrying under the authority of CHL for the Federal GFSZA Exemption. You simply need to have one, not be carrying under it's authority.

What about 51%? I think the bar where they keep holding the NRA banquets has wide enough double doors...

And there I thought my problem is solved and I just can't carry.
So, let's say I want to be the sign Nazi. How do I get Plano ISD to remove the signs?

You can't. Has been tried before by one of the forum members here. PISD attorney claimed they were not a governmental entity, which is patently false, but they won't take them down. If you were arrested for 30.06 for carrying in the parking lot you would have a decent case for false arrest.

If that were the case, how would a school district justify having a Police Department?

If the school is NOT a government entity, then DEMAND your tax money back!

Here's the sign. Spanish wording is all washed out.

That sign is posted at every Plano school that I've seen. As has been stated, it doesn't mean anything to a CHL holder.
