San Marcos Police Department Chief Howard Williams said Friday that SMPD would not be involved in the forum because UPD has jurisdiction over the university.

“I don’t see any magic in being on a college campus that just automatically makes you safer, and if the rationale is that people can defend themselves, I can understand why the university would want it,” he said.

“There seems to be a certain sanctity to a campus, but they had that same feeling at Virginia Tech and at about 20 other colleges,” he said. “There is no magic fence around our campus.”

I was the only one there representing the Round Rock campus, so I'm sure it was my comments to the senate that put the vote over the top. "rlol"

In case she vetoes, and the veto needs overriding
If Capt Benitez persists with the logic "We have at least 3 officers on duty, and can respond within 2 minutes" again See

As a former SWAT officer and a current NRA Certified Firearms Instructor, I am a little confused as to why a police officer would need additional training to “discern between aggressors and individuals acting in self-defense”. Its called police work.

Hiring more cops is not a reason or excuse to prevent students with concealed weapons permits to carry on campus either unless you hire enough for every student to carry a concealed police officer, it is not a solution.
