Second attempt. I still haven't gotten around the dying them. I was going to wait and do a few at a time when I go to dye to see how it works and be able to compare techniques like airbrush, dipping, and brushing.

Great job on the holsters.

One comment on drilling the holes for stitching;
The drilling causes you to lose the leather seal around the stitching. It is not as effective sealing the stitch lock (if you break a thread it will run like wool sweater).
You might try pre-punching the stitch holes with an awl with the leather damp (wet), it will punch and stitch much more easily and then the stitch holes will seal around the thread whether lock stitch or saddle stitch, making it a lot stronger attachment.

True about the seal around the stitching. With normal leather I use an awl to punch my holes, classic saddle stitching. If I am working with leather more than 1/4" thick I usually do pre-drill.

JacksBack - good looking. For what its worth, I usually dye my leather before assembly. Easier to get a nice even coat, specially where the pieces overlap.

I dyed everything before I made this one. It has a different look that when I dyed after assembly.







I also made this Supertuck Style hybrid holster this week.

Here are a few pics of some previous hybrid holsters I've made. I'll be getting a new PT145 soon (as soon as my local Cabela's gets it from their warehouse) and that will give me occasion to make other. I'm going to add a small laser to this gun, so an off-the-rack holster is out of the question anyway. Maybe I'll try leather lining it like alpmc.

After all the reading and advice, actually making the holster was trivial. For $20 I have enough Kydex for at least 5-6 more, and for another $25 enough leather for more than that (I don't have enough pistols to use up all the raw material). When I make one for my little Smith Model 13, I will line it with leather the way alpmc showed - the Smith is too nice to let rub on plastic.

Need to either buy more belt clips, or make some from used hacksaw blade / tool dip. Commandeered these from my Comp-Tac C-Tac.

So - thank you again, it was a learning experience and the holster is just what I wanted.

I just joined the forum and I wanted to make an IWB holster out of materials I had at my house. Looked around and I used my Dell Laptop case to do it.

It is not the prettiest but it is very functional and comfortable. Place for pistol, extra mag, and ID cards.

Are there any of our members willing to quote me a price on a holster, I've been looking to replace my cheap blackhawk holster I picked up at the range one day.

I had the holster in my hands in about 9 -10 days.
The only thing I didn't like was the smell of the dye on the leather, but that faded after a few days.

USA1, guess that is a standing only holster... if you bent, won't your refreshing beverage spill?
