I am very interested...

I work at / instruct at DFW Gun Range if that is of any help in the planning & logistics process...

I'm totally interested in this. I live about 5 blocks from DFW Gun so that would be awesome but I also love the Garland Public(outdoor) range. Elm fork would work too.

Let me know and I'll do my best to be there.

Will there be a prize for driving the farthest distance?

Why do you need to shoot FMJ Chris?

FJM bulk rifle ammo is easy to come by but hard to find a place to shoot it at. I think APG out in Greenville will allow it though. Not 100% on that, call before you go. Elm Fork has a nice range and I'd like to see what I can get out of my AR at 100yds. As far as I know, all ranges will allow FMJ pistol ammo.

I'd be interested in a group shoot.

Well guys, the poll I ran showed that the second Saturday was the most popular, followed by the first Saturday.

My thinking is that it would be best to have someone that is familar with a particular range volunteer to be the host or contact. They could check with the range about availablity and prices and see if the group of us could shoot together.

TC-TX, since you spoke up, and you work there, DFW Gun Range would be a good start. Can you check and let us know if the second Saturday in January would be good?

a lot of the weapons i have are WWII era, and the FMJ surplus ammo is not only far cheaper, but they were made to shoot the surplus. you don't typically find WWII calibers in soft point at the local sporting goods store either. i'm more of a rifle person than pistol. until you've heard that sweet, sweet sound of "PING" after an 8 round clip, or felt the brutal kick of a german mauser, then the FMJ requirement may sound silly.

I too am more of a rifle kind of guy myself, but I don't shoot less than 100yrds, so the difference between FMJ and soft point is moot.

I also shoot a Remington PSS in .308 so I don't have the surplus requirement.

Oh, the sweet ring of that clip flying through the air. I've longed for one of those rifles for years since shooting one as a teen!!

I sent a PM to TC-TX to see if he would check on the DFW gun range. Will advise.

I'm not sure my Garand would feed a whole clip of soft point - OTOH, I've never tried it.

I haven't heard back yet from TC-TX on the availability of DFW Gun Range. Hopefully, he'll respond soon.
