I am not surprised. Nor am I upset with the verdict. However, I am certain to be upset at how the media will likely spin this.

You mean like this headline in the Chronicle today. Concealed handgun license at heart of Rodriguez Case.
Not a good sign for the defense, when a witness for the prosecution (the victim's wife) brings some on the jury to tears.
The correct verdict in my eyes.

Yep, being spun as "stand your ground" and tied to Trayvon Martin. Different state, different laws, Rodriguez broke Texas law and faces life in prison.
PC 9.31, 9.32, 46.035. Intentionally displayed, no longer legally carrying, so he lost self defense. Provoked the attack, so he lost self defense.
Somebody here said the chl is not a batman license, shame this guy dint' learn that.

I agree that this guy makes us all look bad, but there is something good we can take away from this conviction. It proves that the "Stand you ground" or "Castle laws" do not give people the right to shoot first and ask questions later or to simply say that you feared for your life. Sometimes it is clearly evident, but other times it is not. Unfortunately for this guy, it was clear that he started this fight and that's a no-no.

While I hate that this guy had a CHL and it gives us a black eye, it will help clarify the Castle Doctrine/Stand Your Ground law and show that it is not a free ticket to go starting trouble and then finish it and get away with it.

...LEOs have had to live down a whole lot more and a whole lot more often...we'll do fine...the best we can do is to be sure we're not a part of the problem in any way...and correct others' misconceptions about CHL and the Castle Doctrine with the FACTS as we have opportunity to do so...

Well stated, SpeedSix. To quote a famous movie line: "Don't start nuthin' and there won't be nuthin'."

Raw unedited video of shooting that was shown to the jury.
Caution contains language and violence.

He was in fear for his life because he threatened a bunch of drunks with his gun. He could have left anytime or not gone over there in the first place. What a moron!

Does anyone know who his instructor was? I heard a rumor it's someone well known but I won't repeat the name because I don't have confirmation.

I don't know that it matters. This guy totally misunderstood the law. He still probably doesn't think he did anything wrong.

...right...the buck stops with the name on the CHL...no excuse not to know the law for himself...I remember signing affidavits upon renewal...one that said I had read and understood the laws...

Following that logic we could save a lot of time and money by making the class optional. I like it!
