In your opinion is there such as thing as a rational fear of guns?
What would be the causes, symptoms, treatment?

Remember, you're preaching to the choir here and almost everyone here including myself agree with your facts. But sometimes you have to look beyond the obvious and put yourself in someone else's shoes.
I was trying to imagine why the university administrators must be thinking about campus carry the way they seem to. And I do think my "more cars on the road" analogy was a stretch but had some applicability: licenses encourage but do not guarantee success, and increasing numbers of things make the prospect for their misuse increase too.
In theory, yes, but in reality, no.

Thanks for clarifying, Dale, and the good point about perspective.
WildBill, I don't know if there is such a thing as a rational fear of guns per se. Since guns have been demonized by the "gun control" folks for quite a while, pointing out the fallacy of "evil, menacing gun lying in wait to spray lethal projectiles all around" stances seems appropriate, though. I fear not having one on my person if circumstances prove that I need it.

Sure, but little if any of the DPS data you quote refers to the situation of interest - the university classroom. No doubt the university administrators are going on theory.
I'm not at all suggesting that more licensed carriers would be the problem but that they could provide access, however careful they might be, to some nearby stressed-out/drugged/immature student of which there may be many at UT and even a few at my old school, UH.
Also, I am not agreeing with university administrators' gun policy - just trying to be respectful of it and empathetic for it.

Crews are installing signs on doors today. They have the correct 30.06 language, but in English only. They are placing them at ground level and at the corner of entrances. I don't have a ruler, but I also doubt that the letters are one inch tall. I tried to attach a photo, but was unable to do so. I'll give it another shot from my computer this evening. The signs I saw were installed at Cougar Village 1, a residence hall.
Being a proud UH alumnus, I have to say that the amount of places that they intend to ban makes me want to ask for a refund on my diploma.

If you think the letters are undersized put a quarter on the letter. Quarters are .95 inches so it will not completely cover e 1 inch letter.

Still can't seem to post a picture, but the quarter is bigger than the letters.

Not a valid 30.06 sign based on your attachment, and thus not legally binding.

As a full-time student, I will still comply with this improper sign. It's not the same as at a retail store where if you "print" management asks you to leave.
I'm pursuing a degree in my 50s using my military benefits, there is no way I am going to fight this battle. For me, it would mean all sorts of administrative issues, including expulsion, etc.
Now, if I were a parent I might treat it like I do when I go to the movies, etc. (march sharply and "smuggly" by such signs with my nose in the air).
It comes down to the old adage: "Would you rather be right, or would you rather be happy."

Gosh, but it makes me so happy to be right!

I feel you. Were it me, I would probably carry in my backpack in a pocket that I wouldn't keep anything else in. No chance of it being noticed. No crime being committed, obviously. Not as readily accessed as carrying on your person, but better than nothing at all. No different than a woman carrying in her purse. Or you could carry a purse. Nobody on a college campus these days would even bat an eye.

UH-Clear Lake made their draft available. It is much more grounded in reality. Basically some labs, and some Deans' Offices. One building were a day care is, is completely banned. Other than that, have at it.

I saw the same. UHCL is definitely more grounded than main campus. Essentially offices, I think a single lab, and that building you mentioned. I don't know if UHCL is planning on posting signs as well.
Does a university
have to place the appropriate 30.06 on areas that don't allow it?
Or does it suffice to say that they just exclude certain areas in their policy?
If it's in their policy that they don't allow in a certain building, but no/incorrect signs
are posted, does that invalidate their policy on where one can and cannot carry?
