Thanks, RKirby! I rarely ever have an original thought... but occasionally I squeeze out an opinion. I'm looking forward to learning all that I can from TCF.

I bought myself a Kimber Eclipse Ultra II today. It's 8:30 PM on a Tuesday and I'm wishing I could find an open range. Can't wait to try it out.

Meanwhile, since this is my first 1911, how 'bout some pointers from you experienced classic shooters? Let me know what to be careful of and what "double action" habits I need to remember don't apply. I'll be making a large number of visits to the range before I make this my daily carry...I've already been convinced by everybody that I'll be an instant 1911 convert once I put my first eight through this one.



I'll be waiting for someone to recognise the device between the gun and the holster. Think British Sci-fi.
...just thought of something, need a good concealment holster for this one as well. Wonder if Galco makes an Air Marshal IWB for it?

Just today I purchased a Galco Yaqui Slide. Yeah, I know, the color doesn't match my Bianchi belt. (Held together with my TSRA Life Member belt buckle.) And the old belt is getting a little tight. (I didn't know leather would shrink like that.)
It's not very concealable. But the Smith & Wesson Sigma SW40F is too big for me to conceal well anyway. It sort of hides under a jacket, but it wouldn't really hide well unless I was wearing a heavy coat. Doesn't matter since I don't carry on me because my CHL has been expired for years. (Planning to fix that.) But it's a great pistol to carry in the vehicle.
I load the Sigma with Federal Hydra-Shok 155 gr. .40 S&W. I have ten (10) fifteen-round magazines for it (which I would never attempt to carry all at once, LOL).

I have the Kimber Eclipse Pro II and LOVE it! The only thing that could make it better would be if it was a 3" like yours (and if the grips didn't work themselves loose on occasion) . Beautiful firearm!!!

I use a Concealco IWB holster for my daily carry (Colt Officers) and have been extremely pleased with it. It only took 3 weeks and cost $60.

Just took a look at Concealco and purchased a sharp IWB for my Kimber from them online. I love their trick and explanation for placing the front loop on the front of the holster instead of the forward side. One of those simple "why didn't I think of that" things. Thanks for turning me on to them. I'll report back on how happy I end up with it. Hopefully their products are a lot better than their web site...what a navagation nightmare! Nearly gave up just before I finally figured out how to get to their purchasing section.

If you think that their website is bad, wait until you read about their customer service! It doesn't exist!!! He says that he doesn't have time for customer service. But in the end the product is VERY satisfactory, it arrived earlier than promised, and was cheaper than most. So I can deal with poor service.

My next "serious" handgun will be a Kimber Ultra CDP II. A very similar weapon. And it will also be my first 1911.
I say that's the next "serious" piece because between now and then I'll probably get a little North American Arms Guardian for "deep" concealment, such as carrying at work when I don't want my employer to catch on.

Congrats. You win a trip in my TARDIS. (Yes, I'm a nerd with a gun)

I went and shot my new Kimber today. Sweetest shooting handgun out of the box ever in my experience...except for the factory mag. I had a Wilson Combat mag I bought when I purchased the gun, and I picked up two additional Kimber SS mags today before I went to the range. The Wilson and the two SS Kimber mags worked flawlessly, but the black mag that came with the gun is going in the trash.

I absolutely love my new Kimber Eclipse Ultra II, but I find it hard to fathom how Kimber can justify the insanely cheap and poor functioning factory mag that came with it. I read about this in multiple forums before I bought the gun, which is why I picked up a Wilson Combat mag at the same time. Good thing. If I'd not known and went for my first 100 rounds with nothing but the factory mag I would have been blaming the misfeeds on the gun itself, not knowing any better.

Now I'm a 1911 fan. Anybody interested in a PX4 Storm .40?
