Anyone else feel dumb for thinking that they had a chance of getting their CHL back in June or even July? I remember checking the status online in June and thinking "any day it will change from processing!"
Now its September...and just like that little lap dog you leave at home when you go to work...he sits there by the door thinking "my daddy is going to walk in this door any second now and feed me doggy treats!"
I'm still waiting for my doggy treat needless to say. And for some reason my tail is still wagging.

Day-160 Got a phone call from DPS this morning. My background check is done

. Now it is off to the printers and can take up to two weeks

I asked why they had not sent it to the printers before the background check came back. One would think that it has already been 160 day's lets go ahead and get it printed then if some thing negitive comes back we can just shread it.
YEA RIGHT!!! More waiting.

I have not done A Wally Walk but have been carrying for a week or so with my Kimber CDP Pro in a crossbreed and it is a good feeling to have it with me. The only down side is that I am an oil & gas land man and have to leave her in the truck while in the courthouse which makes me feel naked.

Back in '95 when this CHL law was passed, I don't think the state legislature ever imagined the volume of applications we are seeing today. Someone on this forum said around 12,000 a month on average. It''s obvious the state government apparatus is simply not designed to handle this level of work load. I'm sure the people at DPS are doing their best - I give them that, but they are just overwhelmed by the volume. The geniuses in Austin need to put their heads together and come up with a better way of doing this. What about handling the application process through branch offices in each county? Each county office would do all the paper work and background check for applicants in that county only. Wouldn't this be a way of spreading out the work load over a broader area? Isn't this the way driver's licenses are done? The CHL would still be issued by the state, of course, but the paperwork and processing would be done at the local level. If this is a dumb idea, well, it wouldn't be my first. Like to hear what others think on the subject.

From what I read, the Michigan license is done this way, by county. After Sept 1, the DPS will allow non-commisioned officers to perform the back ground checks, at least that is my understanding.
