I was stopped in Friendswood a couple of years ago. It was fairly late at night and I was one of the only cars on the road. When the officer came to the car I had my DL and CHL in hand. He asked if I had a gun then handed the CHL back. Nothing else was said about it. The officer was very professional. No chit chat. Ten minutes or so and I was on my way with a little gift.

Hey Steve...I'm up for lunch. What time?

It realy is up to the cop if he wants to disarm you or not. I know some cops don't want any person carrying but them. My brother is a cop alot of them don't just were the badge they are the badge. He brags about driving 80 or 90 miles an hour and not getting into trouble for it. So for now we just have to deal with it.

Expect a small percentage of poor behavior in every group, no matter the profession.

Most recently, for me, was the revealing of a man of the cloth who behaved very unkindly, at of all places, a funeral for a very close friend of mine. A few days later he treated the widow with cruel insensitivity and this guy's a minister.

An informal discussion with the chief sounds like a very good idea.

Be certain your voice and attitude remain calm, courteous and business like. This approach will go a long way. It'll assure the chief you're a credible person - one worth listening to.

Good luck!

I don't want to hi-jack the thread, but I have wondered why League City is the leader in per capita CHLs. I guess some place has to be first.
About a year ago, I was walking into the apartment office to pay rent, and the LCPD officer who lives two doors down from me was having an informal conversation with the office girls about how they should get their CHLs. Apparently, one of the residents had become irate a few days before about some repairs he requested, and they had to call the police on him. It's the first time I'd ever seen a police officer actually advocating getting a CHL. He also mentioned the League City is #1 statistic.

Just a thought...it may have to do with the political and financial makeup of League City. Lots of republicans and lots of wealthy people in the south shore area. It is Ron Paul's district, after all.

Every time I stop someone that has a CHL I ask them if they're carrying. Surprisingly more than 50% say "No." I tend to question them. I don't under stand why someone would have a CHL and not carry? Unless they're going to work and they work for a federal place and can't have guns on the premises.

Like you don't understand why they are not carrying, or like you think they are giving you false information (I can't tell from the way this is written)?

I'd assume he means it in a "don't understand why they wouldn't be carrying" way.

On the other hand, my friend was on his way to Port A a couple years back and got pulled over for speeding. He wasn't carrying (planned on being very drunk amd chose to leave the gun at home), and told the officer so. Then the officer searched his car, claiming he didn't believe that he didn't have his weapon with him. :???:

That excuse does not meet PC for a search. If you are unarmed and the LEO do not believe you if they ask to search you can refuse.

Is it me, or is speeding the common thread here that attracts the attention of the "Paterollers"?

Way back in the old days, some of the permanently indentured (slaves) called the riders (patrols) who looked for runaways "Paterollers" . We would later call these law enforcers police, constable, "the Man" or some such.

I read that somewhere and now you know. :tiphat:

It's probably a pretty staggering statistic on how many major busts are brought about by seemingly insignificant moving violations.
