Language is important. If you allow connotations and denotations to be set by your opponent, you're letting them 'frame the argument' to an extent. How far that extent goes is dependent on context, obviously (e.g. mag vs clip doesn't have political overtones but civilian vs LEO vs military does.) Language can be used to create walls in people's minds, reinforce a pre-existing mindset, or synthesize new ones.
