how many is too many ?
I usually stop at carrying 7 to church. Any more ant I have to make a second trip to get the Bible.
All Deacons (except 1) are CHLs, and the Pastor and other ministers are ... and several in the congregation, I probably couldn't throw a spare gun very far without a CHL or LEO grabbig it out of the air ... but they don't all carry all the time.

Just running to the grocery store and most places, I carry my standard 2. and about 80 rounds of ammo.
My niece borrowed my leg weights, so the added weight is good for my leg exercise walking.

BY THE WAY... THIS ISN'T A CHALLENGE!
Seriously?

I could say the same about your post.

Some of the arguments are if one is good 2 is better. My question is how many is too many ? When does that logic stop ? When is enough enough. 3 guns ? Why stop there ? 4 ? 6?

At some point no matter your view on this you reach a point of a practical limit. Unless I'm going to the range my limit is one.

The other argument is to use a handgun to fight back to your long gun. A very popular law enforcement quote. They have long guns in their cars. How many here do ?
Since CHL is only for outside the home, its really not for fighting your way back to the house...

In the end you can carry three guns if you want - and its ok "because you can" There are lots of things I do "Just because I can"
This isn't one of them.

Well said. :iagree:

The guy (Deacon/CHL) who convinced me to finally get my CHL once told me "no one needs more than 5 bullets"
He doesn't carry at all, but he recently traded his revolver for a Hi-Power he carries in the car

"Can you site examples of a civilian using multiple weapons in the coarse of self defense?"

Google Lance Thomas. He was a jeweler in multiple gunfights involving more than one gun.

While it is an interesting story, it is not really a story of a concealed handgun guy using his conceal handgun or multiple concealed handguns in a fight out on the street. This situation is more in line with a home defense situation. I still can't find any stories of a CHL holder utilizing two guns in defense of his life while out on the street. The title of this thread is Why CARRY Two guns?

Snipping my question down does not change the original question... BTW! I fixed it for you.

For this not to be a challange seems to me you sure are splitting a lot of hairs when offered some very sound reasoning. Some of that by an excellent instructor.

its being done for the same reason polsters ask questions that have only certain answers they allow, if we really allow open ended questions and take all the anecdotal evidence given as given then our preconcieved notion is proven to be an incorrect hypothesis, therefore we will disregard that wich does not fit our everchanging descriptive definition of what our original question is allowed to take as acceptable evidence. if we cannot disregard the anecdotal evidence then we will modify the paremters of our question to disallow the evidence that does not fit our preconcieved notion so that our hypothesis remains valid. :rules:

Forget what he says - check out what he does.

When he's out of the car, apparently he believes he won't need any rounds. He has apparently figured out a way to ensure that he'll only be attacked while in his vehicle. I'd pay for the key to that bit of analysis if its validity could be proven.

When he's in the car, his choice of gun is unusual for a guy who really believes 5 will always be enough.

How many rounds are in the Hi Power?

Does he keep any spare loaded mags?

This has been an interesting thread with many points of view. There are valid reasons to carry one gun or two guns. There is no one-sized-fits-all answer. Statistics isn't going to decide the question, either. Each person needs to decide what is best for themself. :tiphat:

This is probably the most insightful thing I have read on this thread :tiphat:

Ramon Castillo and Eva, his wife of 30 years, Jewelry Store owners face-off with three armed men who were going to tie them up and shoot them in the head. Four bullets pierced Castillo's body six times because he had to run around getting 3 different "low capacity" guns to fight back. (3rd was his shotgun)

True it isn't carrying two ... he only carried one IWB in his store, that's why he got shot going for number 2 and 3.

13-round magazine capacity
dunno about spare mags
He actually transports a minor a lot and doesn't keep one chambered.

The main reason he doesn't do on body carry is because he's usually with me (2 guns and 86 rounds on body usually, unless I feel a need to be better armed) or another friend of ours (1911 carrier/collector retired LEO)

I am not splitting hairs. It is a real simple request but the truth is, there are no cases of a CHL holder using or needing multiple weapons in a self defense scenario while out on the streets. Not that I or apparently anyone here can find. Sorry it bothers some of you so much. It is Ok if you want to carry ten guns on you. If it makes it easier for you to go out in public, I so go for it. There are folks that think I am nuts to carry one gun... different strokes for different folks. I am of the opinion that in a self defense situation, one gun is all I will need. Looking at the history of situations, I would say the odds are in my favor.

civilian? or category now narrowed to CHL?
category limited to outdoors incidents?

Considering how often CHLs actually even have to draw ... I wouldn't be surprised if no CHL outdoors had to use their backup ... yet.
Found a CHP incident not a CHL incident

I'd bet very few officers ever "needed" to revert to a backup, Most never needed to shoot yet .... most prefer the insurance though.
