I don't think that train probably even left the station until they received your prints. The seem kind of infamous for wanting all of the materials in hand prior to launching your process.

I just received my certified mail receipt, I cant stop checking the dps site even though I know it will be a while before it is even started. Online app was done the 12th, class 17th, in the mail certified the 19th.

At this rate, you will be certifiable by the 29th...

It is a long wait for that first update, you might as well start prepping your mind for it.

Yeah my wife tells me they have to input stuff and just because the received it doesn't mean they are working on it.. blah blah blah, I am gonna keep checking the website but I might cut back to 30 times a day.

I'm mailing mine today. And, I'll be one of the ones obsessively checking for updates!

I just mailed all my paperwork today. I'm hoping for no more issues. I've already had 3 calls to the TX CHL Office due to some technical issues with the online application. I received a confirmation email and was billed, but the CHL dept didn't have any record of my application. The only way I found this out was when I went to do my fingerprints, L1 couldn't find any record of my application. Luckily, I have a direct line now to someone in the office who has been helping me. I ended up having to fax in my email receipt, barcode checklist, and credit card statement showing I was charged. They confirmed that my application is now in the system and that they received my fingerprints. The lady I have been working with told me to mark my package with attention to her, so she will handle it personally.

Anyway, I hope it all works out now.

long short story:
1995- moved to Texas from the West Coast, really surprised about all the politicking on CHL, I figured that if we had it on the left coast, why didn't Texas already have it? My dad Carried legally in Oregon, and Washington reciprocated when he came up to visit me. We all knew how stupid California was, that is why we all left. I was amused and didn't consider pursuing CHL in Texas at the time, I was about a year too young to apply at the time and I was moving back to Seattle in about 2 years, figured that I'd survive till I got 'home'. Then I married a Texan and made my temporary move to Texas more permanent.

Took a while to convince wife that me having a firearm was OK, and needed. Stranger knocking on our door at 2am the week we brought first baby home from the hospital took care of that immediately. Took a few more years for the wife to be comfortable with me wanting to have the gun with me at all times.

shorter story:
2009 took class, never sent in the huge packet to the state.
10/7/2010 Won a CHL Class Certificate at fundraiser dinner/auction for an inner city ministry my wife and I really like and support. (had a mini bidding war with a buddy who was looking to get his CHL too. 'why not, this is for charity' we said)
3/22/11 Applied Online
4/1/11 Fingerprints Submitted
(tried for a long time to schedule the class but never received a response...made decision to pursue the class from someone else, kinda wish I hadn't 'won' the certificate)
9/25/11 CHL Class (with buddy who bid against me, guess he really won. I think he owes me lunch or something now )
9/26/11 Paperwork Mailed off

My process seemed very quick - especially to some of the others I have seen. For those of you who haven't gotten it yet or who have just mailed it in, be optimistic!

About 20 business days from start to finish. And it might have been sooner if the L-1 hadn't had one of their infamous system errors for about 4 days in there.

How do you know if they received your fingerprints? I had mine done but didn't get any confirmation or anything.

You'll see the status change to FP accepted. Should be a day or 2 after they update your status for the first time.

mailed from Austin. It shows "mailed" a couple of days before I think they actually mail it. Not sure why but that seems to be the trend and seems to be how they did with mine. You'll have it before you know it though.
