Might be a good idea to add an hour just on Castle Law and Stand your ground!

Between this case and Trayvon/Zimmerman, there is a lot of timely new material for CHL classes.

:iagree: I am hoping that Charles Cotton will put some of this in his Deadly Force Seminar so he can clear up some of the confusion that some people have about these issues.

Ha, ought to pencil in "no matter what my instructor said" from what I've heard people say instructors told them.

...people are going to make mistakes...even well-meaning folks not spouting their own agendas...it sounds trite to continually say "look it up for yourself" and "read it in the law for yourself" and "know the law"...kinda like "read the contract" and "didja lock the door?" and "are your windows up?"...but we're talking about our freedom...not only to continue carrying...but to go home to our families...is it important??? I may go to prison someday...but not because I didn't know the law...I don't trust LEOs, instructors, lawyers to keep me free...I'm gonna check it out in the law for myself...(then there's the flip side of that...where the LEO, Prosecutor, Judge, or GJ may get it wrong...but you gotta trust the Almighty for that part)...who says it has to be easy...

I have no doubt that this was not an honest mistake. I am totally outraged. This loathsome coward intended to kill a man. Our CHL community should condemn his actions at every opportunity.

Report on instructor from TFL post:

The radio personality (instructor in question) you are thinking of is Jim Pruett, he was on the radio here in Houston back in the 90's and now owns a local gun shop in Cypress Tx. They had him on one of the news channels as a local firearms and CHL experts reviewing the video tape from this shooting.

In his interview he basically told the reporter that Rodriguez should get off because he told the guy that was shot everything that he was taught in his CHL and that was all he needed to do to justify using deadly force.

This guy might be getting someone auditing his class sometime soon.

Wow! The hanging posse is out in TXCHL Forum! It was impossible for me to see what was going on in that video, so I'll reserve judgment until the trial. I noticed that he never raised his voice, consistently asked them to keep the noise down and didn't react to their provocations. The video doesn't provide much with which to determine what took place or what precipitated the shot.
