Because the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is with a good guy with a gun.
I'm a good guy with a good wife and good kids. Bad guys beware.

The only reason I'm getting it is because I can be arrested for carrying without it. I actually hate the idea that I have to ask permission from my state to exercise a right. I hate the idea of jail more though so I paid the tax and am awaiting my permission card.

Yes?

If no, please elaborate.

Because the CHL course and wait for CHL to arrive take less time than arguing an arrest (and appeal of conviction) for carrying "under the 2nd Amendment" all the way to the Supreme Court... :rules: :smash:

First, I prefer to be in compliance with the law.

Second, I believe that its my responsibility to society to be able and prepared to defend me and mine.

Third, I'm (like many) not as young as I used to be and consider my CH to be an equalizer.

And, I've decided that the word of those who've tried to carry a cop and found him too heavy is acceptable...

Having spent 20+ years working the streets as a EMT/Firefighter, I have seen the worst and best of people. It doesn't take too much of seeing the worst to figure out that if you are not prepared, you can easily become a victim. Simply having a CHL (which I do carry EVERYDAY) is not not enough. I truly believe that ones has to be educated in various areas of self defense. Awareness, varbal-descelation techniques, hand to hand, and reality based training with firearms. Noticed a key word with firearms training... reality based. Until you train realisticly, one can not fathom the dynamics of a real life violent event. Anyway, my real reason is to simply have some type of control over a potential life changing conflict and not simply rely on pure luck. Stay safe my friends. Lee

@koconcepts

Jan 12 CHL class taken
Feb 2 online Application Completed
Feb 9 mailed required documents
Feb 21 fingerprints submitted
Mar 3 documents received, background in review

Are you serious with this timeline? I sent my paperwork in over a month ago and nothing. They did receive my fingerprints, but that was online. I'm worried my packet is lost in the mail or something. That would suk big time since it has just about everything someone needs to steal my identity!

Patience is a virtue, I guess.....

Several reasons actually

#1 The number of kick-in type burglaries seem to be on the rise.

#2 A life-changing ankle injury made me less able to maneuver, even though I consider myself very aware of my surroundings

#3 To show my support for the 2nd Amendment (although a license shouldn't be required IMO.) I'm a libertarian at heart, and I don't see anything in "shall not be infringed" that leaves room for questions. For those who would argue that the framers of the Bill of Rights were talking about muskets, because they had "no concept" of our modern weapons, I would have to argue that they had "no concept" of instant satellite news and the internet, either, so I suppose that their 1A rights shouldn't apply to computers or to Television. There's nothing in the 2A that says "for personal protection" or "for hunting" and I think that when we make arguments that involve any specific use of a firearm, we make a mistake. Any legal use by a law-abiding citizen that does not infringe upon the rights of another law abiding citizen is allowed. /rant

You don't need your CHL for this. The 2A on its own covers you here... that plus the castle doctrine.
