There's a lot of that going around. Straus didn't elect himself Speaker of the House all by himself.

Hi Everyone,

I really appreciate all the fantastic feedback. I can't wait to move to Texas. All your comments have been so helpful. I teach Firearms & Tactics all over the country. Is there a way to get a Texas CHL and become a Texas CHL Instructor in one class or does it have to be done separately? Thanks again.

The instructor course is held in suburban Austin and consists of 5 days of classroom work and range time. It is separate and apart from the chl. In fact you can have an instructors certificate without haveing a chl. The instructor course is only taught from time to time so you need to sign up for it and you will be notified when your number is up, so to speak.....

Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Most of Texas is firearm friendly. Just avoid the areas around the biggest cities, like Dallas county (Dallas), Travis County (Austin), and Harris county (Houston).

Since i have no desire for Texas to end up like Illinois, New York, or California; I would encourage you to relocate in/around the large metro areas. We need like-minded relocators to offset the influx of liberals who've ruined the places where they came from & are trying trying to recreate those failures here. Firearm laws & business climate are controlled at the state level, so you won't find much regulatory difference between rural Texas & big-city Texas.

Will we be safe, pulling into the hill country in a Lexus and a Grand Cherokee both with California plates and DL's?

We'll get 'em changed as quick as we can, of course.

Of course you will be! I was referring to states that would be considered fairly conservative were it not for the overly liberal populations in the metros that seem to throw things out of whack. If we encourage newbies to only move to the sticks, then Texas is likely to fall into the same category as the states I mentioned above.

That describes California pretty well, actually. The cow counties in the eastern and northern parts, up in the mountains, are generally fairly conservative, but are hopelessly out numbered state wide by the communists in the big city LA, SF, to a certain extent SD and Orange County, lots of immigrants, lots of illegals, lots of pot smoking, hobos, et al. This is how you end up with Feinstein, Boxer and Moonbeam in high office. There is not a single conservative in state-wide office and so few in the Legislature they commute to the Capitol in the same car.

You will not regret your move. One surprise for me when I moved to the Houston area was the lack of gun ranges compared to the large population.
