I just dropped mine off at FedEx.

Feels strange to be sending it to Illinois! :banghead:

Indeed. It gave me an excuse to get a CM9 at the High Caliber show this weekend.
Not a bad choice. I have a PM9 which I'll gladly carry while my XDS is out for "upgrades" (as SA is calling it).
I'd been eyeing one for a while for pocket carry and the recall just nudged it. At $412 OTD, I couldn't pass it up.

Still, I think I might wait a bit before sending mine in.

Great price... I got mine for $399, other than that one special case — I haven't seen one for less than $499... Congrats with the great buy. I think, if I see another one for close to $400 — I would buy another one. Although, now I am eye an XDm compact .40.

Springfield PHONE LINES ARE DOWN!

I have been trying to call SA via their RECALL DIRECT line to ask a couple of questions. It says that I cannot connect to the number "at this time" and to "try again later".

Very frustrating. Anyone knows anything about it for sure? Not just guessing — I know they are getting bombarded with phone calls.

I emailed them on 8-28, but received no reply as of yet...

Thanks.

186,000 XDs being recalled, My guess is no one is really going to get much of any responses via phone or email.

Just got a report from another XD-S owner, whose gun arrived at the SA today, that a Customer Service rep told him on the phone that, since his gun was at the facility already, he will get his XD-S back in LESS THAN TWO WEEKS!

Let's hope it's true for all of us. Mine got there this morning...

Although a lot of guns are being recalled, many owners will take a "wait and see" approach, or tell themselves that their gun is fine - which may or may not be true.

In any case, if human nature holds true, I expect there will be a very manageable number reaching the factory in the first couple of weeks.

That's true about quite a few people waiting. I disagree with their position. Even if the risk is low and it can happen on a "rare" occasion (as SA says), I wouldn't want to take the risk. Even is something MAY happen once in 20 year, I would NOT WANT TO TAKE THAT CHANCE with my life or with that of my loved ones (or even strangers).

Plus, if (God forbid) something happens, and you knew about the recall and ignored it — the liability would become yours. At least, partially, but possibly — fully.

Even if the risk is low, the potential consequences are WAY TOO SEVERE to just "wait and see".

Well, as it turns out, the same dealer who told me it was old news and not to worry about it is packing up all their XDSs in stock and sending them in. Wants to know if I want him to send in mine for me along with all of theirs.

I'd send it in myself...my dealer said that customers will probably take priority over dealers in regards to turn-around...

I agree 100%.

I couldn't picture waiting to see if my gun would go "bang" each time I loaded it.

However, human nature is hard to change and doing nothing is easier than doing something, which is more than enough reason for many to do nothing.

My bet is that tens of thousands of those guns will never be sent in for repair.

This the same dealer who "knew about the recall 3 months ago", but still sold you one?
Yep. That one. It certainly has occurred to me. :grumble

I've already got my RMA#, so I'm going to send it in myself.

SA didn't help matters any by stating they were "initiating this voluntary safety recall". Some would think that if it were serious enough they would take a more stringent approach in seeing the guns got returned for repairs. Mine will go back next week.

The word "voluntary" here applies to the manufacturer and not the consumer, as in THEY WERE NOT COMPELLED to initiate the recall. These recalls cannot force the consumer to return the guns, even if the government forced the manufacturer to do the recall. In relation to the consumer any recall is always voluntary (cars, guns, etc.).

SA did the only thing they could do for our safety and to avoid potential legal action. The voluntarily initiated the recall. The also worded it very strongly on their page by telling us to discontinue use of the gun immediately, to safely unload it and send it in. I don't see, how they could possibly make a stronger case, since they cannot force us to return the guns (neither can the government).
