I'm sure hope it can, the bill has been poisoned and gutted.nobius wrote:Can the amendments be removed at third reading using another amendment?
Any links for the text of the Amendments that passed? (#1, 5 and 6)?jerry_r60 wrote:It's in amendment one. The amendment removed language so you have to go back to the original bill and see the text that is removed by the amendment.

Wasn't their a latter amendment that was acceptable to the author that was attached without a vote?RoyGBiv wrote:Do you have a link for the text of the Zerwas Amendment (#1)?jerry_r60 wrote:It's in amendment one. My recollection of the debate last night was that private colleges were left unchanged. There was discussion about "if it's good for public colleges then why not private?", but the House member pushing that argument was doing it as a Bill killer and, ultimately, there was nothing added or deleted last night that affects private colleges.... I'd like to see the text of the Amendment to confirm this...
And...
Just to reset..... Only one amendment was added to SB 11. All other proposed amendments failed.
You can confirm this by checking the Record Votes dated yesterday here: http://www.legis.state.tx.us/BillLookup ... &Bill=SB11" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Amendment 2 (amending Amendment 1) failed, Amendment 1 passed, Amendment 3 was withdrawn, Amendment 4 failed, SB11 passed on second reading.
I see three amendments adopted.RoyGBiv wrote:Do you have a link for the text of the Zerwas Amendment (#1)?jerry_r60 wrote:It's in amendment one. The amendment removed language so you have to go back to the original bill and see the text that is removed by the amendment.

Maybe it's just me, but I think ALL votes should be recorded.RoyGBiv wrote:2 more were added without a record vote.
(e) A private or independent institution of higher
education in this state, after consulting with students, staff, and
faculty of the institution, may establish rules, regulations, or
other provisions prohibiting license holders from carrying
handguns on premises that are owned or leased and operated by the
institution and located on the campus of the institution.
I wonder if the part about "after consulting with students, staff, and faculty..." has any teeth in it. Will students actually get a say? Will staff actually get a say? Or will libtard faculty have all the clout?RoyGBiv wrote:Reading Amendment 6... Looks like it changed the bill from "private colleges are still prohibited" to "private colleges can opt out".
I don't have a lot of grief about that, assuming I'm reading it correctly. Probably why it passed without a record vote.
Maybe I'm not reading it correctly?

It's pretty easy to predict that fear mongering progressivism will win that argument.The Annoyed Man wrote:I wonder if the part about "after consulting with students, staff, and faculty..." has any teeth in it.
