What a surprise today, a surprise at great customer service from the DPS. I was having trouble loggin in, so I just called the 800#, and nice voice at the other end of the phone picked up on the first ring, asked how he could help and looked up my status.

My license has cleared all the checks, and has been sent off to the printer, he said it should not be long now.

When I logged on to the DPS site this morning, they have a new format that is a lot better. It tells you exactly where you application is. Mine is still in the background review stage, delayed by the FBI checks assumably.

OK, when I log in to the new site, the only link it gives me is to "Apply for your instructor certificate". Am I missing something?

Yep, that's where I went. I've decided that since yesterday my status was "Packet mailed to applicant" it just means that although I have proof they received my paperwork on 4/22, they haven't entered it into the system yet. It is at least recoginizing me since I did the initial stuff and paid online. I guess I will just wait for a week and THEN freak out if it's still not giving me any info - that's about how long it seems to have been taking previously for status to change from Packet mailed to applicant to processing application, right?

Nothing to worry about.
It only means they have not started processing your app or just haven't updated the system yet.
It should change soon to "Processing Application"

I spoke to the DPS this morning, the web site was updated last night, and not all the code was loaded. The field where you type in you "Pin" is not there, and the IT department is update things. Check back in a day or two. -Mark

I wonder if they'll also change it to be a secured website since we are putting our personal information (SSN, DL#, etc.) into the ehter.

I just tried to check my status and the website is currently down. Perhaps they are updating the code now?

Today, I decided to call again, they told me they have now done away with the "PIN" numbers. Then the nice women on the phone asked me for my info and looked up my info and told me to expect it at the end of the month and it was in progress. So who knows...

Interesting. Are you able to see your status online? Mine still shows nothing at all - looks like I am just a few days behind you in line.

Yes I can still see my status, but now it show the green checkmarks next to this list:

License Status:

* Application : Received
* Fingerprints : Received
* Affidavits : Received
* DL or ID : Valid
* Citizenship : No documentation required
* Passport photo holder : Received
* Photo : Received
* Proof of Classroom training : Received
* Proof of Proficiency training : Received
* Fee : Received

Paper work arrived at DPS: March 31 2010
Status on DPS website changed to "Processing Application": April 14 2010
Status changed along with website makeover to "Manufacturing License": May 3 2010
Status changed to "Mailed": May 5 2010
Plastic in Hand: 12:06pm May 7 2010
