Hello to all. So today I received my renewal notice for my LTC. Should I pay to renew or should I wait to see if the permitless law passes? Thanks

There will still be benefits to having a Texas LTC, like bypassing NICS and reciprocity. Plus it is dirt cheap. Even if Unlicensed carry passes I will keep my LTC.

I travel a lot. Will keep both TX and AZ permits even if permitless passes.

Renewing is quick and easy and inexpensive.

I certainly think it will be worth it keep licensed to bypass NICs and maintain your reciprocity.

Also, I don't know how the permitless carry legislation is written, but my thoughts are that a permitless carrier in the state of Texas should be able to go anywhere and do anything in state that an LTC carrier does, however, I would add that I hope that future legislative sessions will make movement to get rid of prohibited places and my expectation is that if they do start to eliminate prohibited places they probably with making exceptions for LTC carriers because of the background check and training requirement.

So even if permitless carry passes, I will keep my LTC for reciprocity out of state, and I will hope that in a future legislative session that exemptions are created to remove prohibited places.

Renew it

Anyone know if permitless carry will have TABC remove “blue signs”?
Without a permit - could you still carry in
Kroger’s
Target
Walmart
Any place else that sells alcohol?

Lots of reasons to keep your LTC as others have said

Until we have the final version of the bill approved by both the House and Senate, nothing is 100% certain. That said, both House and Senate versions removed the TABC BLUE sign from law.

It is very helpful after boating accidents.

At the beginning of traffic stops.

In other states.

And things could change in the future what with everyone moving here.

Between travel and purchasing without a check I will be retaining my LTC.

I have no intention of letting my LTC lapse.

My forecast is that little will change. Let's think about the projection that about 50% of LTC holders actually carry today. Those interested in permit less carry face all the same reasons that LTC have for not carrying. You have a small percentage of otherwise law abiding citizens who were already carrying without a permit and they may rest easy now. The BGs were also already carrying so the threats to law enforcement are probably not worse now either. In some of the lower income groups, you might have an uptick in people outside of their homes with guns. But Constitutional Carry didn't do anything to lower the costs of guns and I personally think that is a greater inhibitor to legal citizens than anything.

I've tried to follow other States as they introduced permit-less carry. I would have expected OK to be worse than Texas but I've seen almost nothing for our neighbors to the North that suggests Constitutional Carry was a bad idea for them.

It will be interesting to see which of the provisions in the bill survived the conference committees. At one point, it looked like the TABC was going to be out of the gun related sign business except for the 51%. I think that is win all by itself.

I will keep my LTC current.
I travel to the adjacent states often as well as other states.
There will likely be some places that allow an LTC but not permitless.

I think I’ll get into the gun buster sign business. Probably will be lots of orders.

Might be a good idea. There are many people ignorant enough to think that sign will keep an armed robber from entering with a gun. I will never understand the level of stupidity it takes to be afraid of a law abiding citizen with a firearm.

I agree. You should renew it. It is cheap and why not have it just in case something changes. plus reciprocity in other States and bypass NIC.
