Too bad she didn't break her neck instead of her ankle.

This is old. I'm pretty sure I saw it more than a year ago.
Still funny as all get out though. Thanks for sharing it.

Dangit. I was hoping that when the guy came around to "rescue" his girlfriend, that he would twist his ankle carrying her back to the car and they'd both end up in a mangled heap of lower-leg injuries.

Yes I laughed when she fell and twisted/broke her ankle.
I found only one article about the actual event (as opposed to just highlighting the video).
Stole kitty litter and toys on Amazon Prime Day in 2017, about $100+ worth.
Amazon replaced the items for free after the victim provided a police report number.
Thieves hadn't been caught as of the time of the article, although I would think this would be one of the easier cases of porch piracy to solve.

I was disappointed that the thief never managed to run over himself, and the homeowner never managed to turn his phone sideways.

That's a baffling conundrum. Movies, TV shows, YouTube videos, our desktop computer monitors...they're all in landscape mode, usually in 16:9 ratio, sometimes in the older 4:3 ratio. But it seems that 80% of the time people capturing video on their phones do it with the phone vertical, getting a portrait-mode image. I wonder why that is? You'd think we'd be more hardwired by now to turn the phone sideways.ELB wrote: Wed May 26, 2021 4:59 pm I was disappointed that the thief never managed to run over himself, and the homeowner never managed to turn his phone sideways.
I did very much enjoy when it seemed the homeowner got bored and maybe even a little charitable after a long while. He offered to go get a shovel for the thief. I was kinda expecting the guy's engine to overheat or throw a rod or something. He kept redlining the RPMs with no load on the engine. You could just see a cartoon thought-bubble over his head: "How can this be happening to me!?"

I think because we naturally hold the phone in the portrait position, it's easier to use that way, and a lot pictures (e.g. selfies) lend themselves to a portrait framing. So when something exciting happens, people revert to their training, which is portrait orientation.Rafe wrote: Wed May 26, 2021 10:18 pm

It’s easier to one hand hold and video vertically.ELB wrote: Thu May 27, 2021 12:50 pmI think because we naturally hold the phone in the portrait position, it's easier to use that way, and a lot pictures (e.g. selfies) lend themselves to a portrait framing. I tend to need two hands to horizontally video. I try and remember, but it’s easy to forget.

So far,(knock on wood), I have never been the victim of a porch pirate. Our street ends in a circle so we have very little through traffic. That may be why.
