Jury finds 30 yo defendant not guilty of the murder of 77 yo volunteer fire chief. He confessed to police that he fired the gun that killed the fire chief.
“Attorney Jeffery Stephens said Dunham wanted a ride but felt threatened and began firing, the paper reports. His lack of intent to harm means it isn’t murder, Stephens added.”

During closing arguments on Thursday, 14th Circuit Solicitor Duffie Stone wove together a story of a frustrated Dunham searching for a ride when he came across Stevens.
“... He sees a target,” Stone said. “A 77-year-old man alone with a running truck. What great fortune for Devon Dunham, a vulnerable elderly man by himself.”
Stone alleged Dunham walked up to Stevens, told him to give him the truck, then unloaded all eight rounds in his 9mm handgun when Stevens tried to drive away.
Nothing to see here. Move along.

Sounds like a perfect opportunity for a federal hate crime charge, since the perp was black and the victim White (aka a Person of Pallor).

BLM.....only. Everyone else not so much.
What was the defendant's version of events that led to him shooting the victim and the jury letting him off??

Near as I can tell, the defense attorney said he didn’t have intent to murder, he only wanted a ride. By the victim by driving off denied him that rude.
The prosecuting attorney apparently proved beyond a reasonable doubt he pulled the trigger that fired the gun that sent the bullets that killed the man, but failed to prove intent.
Jury only took two hours to decide this.

According to the article, the defendant "felt threatened" by the victim. ????? Was the "threat" only because the victim was not giving him the "ride" that he wanted? Read another way, this is a car-jacking where the victim was trying to drive away.
It may be SC law. If so, the SC legislature needs to get busy ASAP. I cannot think of any other place in the country where when someone won't give you a ride, you get to shoot and kill them as compensation for that denial.
