Change of Address

I don't know how long it will take to get the replacement, but I just filed and paid dearly for a new card yesterday due to my recent change of address.

It's nice that the web site allows you to add a comment as to what changes you would like to see, so I eagerly mentioned that it would be better if the fee for a Change of Address for a CHL was in line with a Change of Address for a Driver's License (at least I got lucky on that one... the DL was expiring on my birthday next month so I was able to humanely disperse two fowl with one shot, er... fee). I'm certainly not holding my breath that they will decrease the cost on the CHL CoA, but one can only hope that CHLs will become popular enough that the higher fee can't rightly be justified.

Anyway, I just thought I would track how long it takes to get the replacement card in my hands, so I'll reply to this post when it arrives.

How much did you pay for a change of address? I did mine 6 or so months ago and it didn't seem very high.

I got my new DL in a few days, and my new CHL in a little over a week.

The fee is $25. It's in the law, GC §411.181. Only the legislature can change it.

Yes, the CHL CoA is $25, but for a DL it's only $10. Not quite sure why that extra $15 is needed for CHLs, as I' sure they both use the same materials and both are no doubt generated by the same equipment, from a similar database, etc. and cost the same to mail out. The only justification I can think of is that CHLs are of course not as popular as DLs. (yet) ;-)

For what it's worth, the replacement CHL for the address change took 21 days from the moment I requested and paid online for it until it arrived in my mailbox Tuesday, October 9th.

Yep $25.00 is right. My wife and I moved from Temple to Waco and we did ours on line. Can't remember how long it took but it wasn't to long.
