Employer with USDA on location

I am the security manager at a meat processing plant. We have USDA officers on site. Our current policies do not address CHL, but we do have a non 30.06 anti-gun sign at one our doors.

The questions is, is there anything in the law with regard to federal officers? I can "take care of" the sign, but I don't want to do the wrong thing. If having USDA in your building, makes your building a no-gun zone, I will change out the signs with a proper 30.06 sign, to make it clear.

Did I make any sense? I hope you get the gist of my question.

Thanks,

Ric

There's certainly no state law that makes it illegal to carry in a privately owned facility just because a federal officer is there.

With federal laws and regulations, who knows?

I don't have enough IQ points to understand federal law. Full-time lawyers with law degrees don't understand all of it.

FWIW, I have never heard of such a thing. Firearms are prohibited in most facilities owned or leased by the federal government, but I doubt they can create a mobile "gun-free zone" around a federal employee. If they tried, I think it would end up in front of the Supreme Court, the way that the "gun-free school zone" law did.

Thanks! I will look into it a little further, and if I don't find it, I will remove the non-30.06 sign.

Since it appears to be your decision, why do you have any type of anti-gun sign posted?

I was just put in charge of security about a year ago. I just took the chl class a month ago. I did not put up the sign, and now I see that it is not even legal, as it does not meet the 30.06 requirements.

The decision was made, but I can undo it.

I remembered something about the Federal firearm ban being in place at any facility where Federal employees regularly worked, so I looked up 18USC930. It does state what I thought it did, with one exception: the facility must be owned or leased by the Federal Government. Looks to me like you're golden to remove any/all signs banning CCW!
