A 10/22 is NOT expensive. They aren't cheap, but you can quite reasonably get one sub $200. It isn't going to be the souped up version with all of the after market stuff, but it will be a fine plinker straight away.

There are most certainly more expensive auto loaders out there... and more accurate. But none with the following and after market parts.

Ruger 10-22

Ruger 10/22's are inexpensive. Sub 200 dollars for a base model and there are 1000's of accessories. I wouldn't buy a used 1 unless I had shot it, unless is was around 100 dollars or highly customized. They're to inexpensive to not buy new.

With what I remember paying for the two I have, I can't bring myself to pay $200 for a new one. The last one was in 2005 at $139.

Some of the prices I see at shows are even more ludicrous.

Since my only desire for another one is to build another target rifle, I'm going to scrap the barrel and stock anyway.

So my eyes are always open for a beater.

Problem is, dealers think their 'beaters' are worth $200!

The Gallery of Guns has a custom 10/22 built by Talo. I can get one shipped to a local FFL for $525.83

I was hoping to come across a beater or two as I would likely replace the stock and barrel

New basic, plain 10-22's were marked $250 at this weekend's Pasadena show.

Totally ridiculous!!

Saw a 10-22 advertised in Sunday's Chronicle ad for Sports Authority.

The ad on page 10 is somewhat confusing.

It reads:

Save $20 off orig*
$179.99
Orig *$199.99 Now $189.99

Hopefully, it's priced correctly at $179.99 in their system.

If your going to scrap it just make your way down to tomball pawn they have a nice gun for sale without any blue on it and a few dings in the stock for that price i gave earlier...but i mean if your going to scrap it i bet thats prb one of the best deals you'll see after you work'em down from the marked price of 125.
