I hastily copied the wording of the no gun sign at the west entrance.

It states:

"It is unlawful to carry a hand gun on these premises.

This facility reserves the right to search each person, his or her personal effects and vehicle as a condition of entry onto or presence on the property.

Violators will be prosecuted."

Read Penal Code sections 46.035(b)(4) & (i)

Then read 30.06

It tells you that Hospital carry is off limits IF they post a 30.06 sign, and then describes the 30.06 sign. The wording you included is not 30.06 compliant.

I didn't see 30.06 anywhere on or near the sign, but the wording is emphatic and very specific.

I wonder if this is all a bluff or if they've ever brought a case against someone with this sign in mind?

This is purely a guess, but I suspect they either don't know better, or they don't want to post a TPC §30.06 compliant sign. The correct sign is big and ugly. Now, if we just change 1" to 2" then . . .

Were one subjected to a disputed search or apprehension while armed at the hospital as a CHL holder, would the hospital be out on a legal limb?

It would seem so - but one would need to have the funds to pursue that legal recourse. I suspect that it might be a long one.

What does that mean?

If there is no 30.06 there is no offense. Period.

I just thought of Chinese and Vietnamese because I see a lot of businesses in the Houston area with signs in those languages.

If in the course of being in the hospital as a visitor or in the parking lot, one of the hospital's representatives, possibly in the form of a hospital security person, attempts to detain me or declares me under arrest or acts in any quasi threatening, negative interaction with me because I'm armed with a handgun (and currently licensed with a Texas CHL) what are my alternatives?

Call the police as quickly as I can while it happening? (I have a cell phone)

Submit, but consider it unlawful arrest and pursue the matter legally i.e. sue?

Walk away and tell them what?

Defend myself as I would with anyone assaulting me?

Since reading their sign, I've not gone back to visit my friend. He's still there. This is of course the most sure fire way of not having a problem, but I feel kinda gutless...Yeah, I could go back unarmed too, but that's not good either.

I'm left wondering what to do.

I know their sign is not the 30.06 , but the threat per their verbiage to me as outlined above is my chief consideration and frustration.

If you are properly carrying your handgun concealed there is no issue. Unless you cause a disturbance why would anyone pay attention to or search you?

A non-30.06 sign holds no legal weight. If they attempted to detain me, I would call the police. I would only use force if they assaulted me. What YOU do is a matter for you to decide. I prefer to avoid a physical conflict as it is too easy for me to be accused of being the aggressor, especially with uniformed security people.

But again, unless you act a fool there is no reason for security to have contact with you.

Oh, if its emphatic then it counts! :)

At the rear entrance to the MRI building they even have a ghostbusters....

I will be carrying there unless I am a patient... and even then if I can figure out how to conceal in one of those gowns.
