She's not changing sides. She just despises McCain worse than Hillary.

Ann Coulter is an incredibly abrasive person who makes me laugh until my sides hurt. She can get the Liberal's "fuming mad" faster than anyone I know.

I think she has a secret plan to kill them off one by one by means of raising their blood pressure. She's a hoot.

The conservative backlash against McCain is huge (and fully justified, IMHO). McCain's faults are many, and serious.

The only thing that worries me is whether all this outraged punditry is based on principle, or is just a setup for slipping Romney in without scrutiny. "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!", etc.

You know, it's not like I expect the neocons on Townhall.com to suddenly endorse my candidate, but I am always suspicious when all the pundits suddenly jump on the same bandwagon.

Pat Buchanan's magazine, The American Conservative, has made their endorsement.

The McCain/Feingold assault on the 1st admendment.

The McCain/Leiberman assault on the 2nd admendment.

McCain willing to send your grandkid's kid's to Iraq to fight the "terrorists".

I think you left some out. McCain is about as left as you can be in the GOP.

He authored the immigration compromise" amnesty bill that failed moserably. Even lefties voted against it.

McCain is bad news. I can see where Ann Coulter is coming from. I would vote for her if she ran. If you really want to understand her you must read her books. I have much respect for her.

Russell wrote:So then who here is pushing for Romney over McCain? Bolded statements added for effect

Romney on gun control:

* I support the work of the NRA, but disagree sometimes. (Dec 2007)
* Ok to ban lethal weapons that threaten police. (Dec 2007)
* Supports Second Amendment rights but also assault weapon ban. (May 2007)
* Will support assault weapons bill and Brady Bill. (Aug 1994)

McCain on gun control:

* I know how to use guns; but I don't own one. (Nov 2007)
* Prosecute criminals, not citizens for gun ownership. (Sep 2007)
* Don't hold gun manufacturers liable for crimes. (Sep 2007)
* Opposes restrictions on assault weapons and ammunition types. (Sep 2007)
* Ban cheap guns; require safety locks; for gun show checks. (Aug 1999)
* Supports ban on certain assault weapons. (Aug 1999)
* Voted against Brady Bill & assault weapon ban. (Aug 1999)
* Guns are a problem, but so are violent web sites & videos. (Aug 1999)
* Punish criminals who abuse 2nd Amendment rights. (May 1999)
* Youth Violence Prevention Act restricts guns for kids. (May 1999)
* Repeal existing gun restrictions; penalize criminal use. (Jul 1998)
* Voted YES on prohibiting lawsuits against gun manufacturers. (Jul 2005)
* Voted YES on banning lawsuits against gun manufacturers for gun violence. (Mar 2004)
* Voted NO on background checks at gun shows. (May 1999)
* Voted YES on more penalties for gun & drug violations. (May 1999)
* Voted YES on loosening license & background checks at gun shows. (May 1999)
* Voted YES on maintaining current law: guns sold without trigger locks. (Jul 1998)

To me they both seem about the same, with McCain edging Romney out just a bit for the better.
Ron Paul beats them all on more than just the second amendment.

If everyone who says "I like him but he's unelectable" will actually vote for him, it's a Ron Paul landslide in November.

Paul is in better fiscal shape than the others. Have you seen the Q4 numbers? Paul is the only one who is money ahead. Romney spent $23 million last quarter, $18 million of it being his own money.

I'm pulling numbers from the L.A. Times blog, which pulled numbers both from the FEC, and from other bloggers.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washing ... er-ro.html

Ron Paul:
Q4 raised $19.95 million
Spent $17.75 million
Cash on hand $7.8 million.
The only Republican candidate to increase his fundraising totals in every quarter of 2007.

John McCain:
Q4, raised $9.9 million
Spent $10.5 million
Cash on hand $2.9 million.

Mitt Romney:
Q4, raised $9.2 million, but gave himself $18 million more of his own money last fall for a total of $27.2 million
Cash on hand $2.4 million.

Mike Huckabee:
Raised $6.7 million
Spent $7.08 million
Cash on hand $651,300.68.

Rudy Giuliani:
Q4 raised $14.4 million
Spent $18.2 million
Lost money, dropped out.

Fred Thompson:
Q4 raised $8.9 million
Spent $13.9 million
Seriously upside down, dropped out.

Funds raised (of remaining candidates), Q4:
Paul, $19.5 million
McCain, $9.9 million
Romney, $9.2 million
Huckabee, $6.7 million

Cash on hand (of remaining candidates), Q4:
Paul, $7.8 million
McCain, $2.9 million
Romney, $2.4 million
Huckabee, $651,000

I'm tempted to send him a $0.32 donation just to even that out.
