Anyone know if the NTIA is posted 30.06?? Will be heading out tomorrow and was just wondering if to carry or not.

I'm having some deja vu. I think if the event is at Fair Park, that it shouldn't be 30.06 (Fair Park city owned). I remember when question of CC'ing at Fair Park came up on this forum for State Fair '07, ultimately the decision was that you could CC (with CHL of course)..I wouldn't go without packing in that area anyway.

Will there be highland games there?

Be careful, because many of those smaller festivals actually do have professionals come in to do the highland games and it is a professional sporting event. I competed on the amateur side next to some of those pros in the past, and they are great to hang out with, but they are most certainly paid and it is a professional job.

Knives and guns
Knives and guns will NOT be permitted inside the festival grounds. This includes swords and long knives worn as part of the ethnic dress. A small Sgian Dhub is acceptable. (If you don't know what that is you shouldn't have one!) Knives and swords may be purchased at certain authorized booths under the strict conditions posted at the booth.

So... they don't want you to carry, but no specific mention of 30.06 concealed carry specific posting. I think fair park used to be a no carry area, at least during the State Fair - but that's been changed recently. Best bet is to call Fair Park Administration directly and ask:

Its a rough area, and always makes me twitch when we visit if I'm not allowed to carry. My wife and I have been to an incredible old cemetery near fair park (on Malcolm X Blvd) on a photography trip a couple of times. You can bet we both were glad to be packing.

I would not voluntarily go into that area without packing....one wrong turn (especially at night) and you'll know that you're alone....well, you won't be alone....but YOU will be alone, if you catch my drift. Even if you don't make a wrong turn, it may be unsettling for you, maybe I'm paranoid though (anyone seen my tin foil/armadillo hat??).

Well I just now got home from the Festival. It was OK, but not all that and a bag of chips. The Highland Games back at the Orange County Fairgrounds in California was more fun, cleaner, and more picturesque.

I carried into the venue. There was no 30.06 sign, but there was a large sign in black block letters on a white background saying no knives, swords, etc., etc., etc., or "guns of any kind." I walked right past it.

On the plus side, my wife and son accompanied me to the range this morning before going to the festival. My wife shot well with my Sig 1911... ...so much so that she preferred it to the revolver I bought her for Valentines Day. She thinks she might prefer to have a 1911 for CHL when she gets her license.

A good friend of mine conceals a commander-length 1911 under a kilt. I know it can be done. (But then again I didn't check.)

If you're referring to the Disney TV theme show, it was Davey Crockett who "kilt him a bar when he was only three."

Fess Parker played both Davey Crockett and Dan'l Boone on TV, so it's easy to get confused.
