CCW Badge?

I have been looking for concealment ideas - when I ran across this on the website. They are describing a CCW Badge that you could wear next to your concealed handgun - It appears to be an "official" looking badge (either nickel or gold) and it says CONCEALED WEAPONS PERMIT

I get a lot of requests for a CCW badge at the Gun Shows that I attend, so this gave me a chance to find out why you wanted to carry a badge. Most of you said you belt carry and you wanted to wear the badge next to your gun so if your coat opens or the wind blows it open, the badge might put a bystander at ease. You wanted a little extra measure of acceptance to offset the freak-out factor of the anti-gun and P.C. crowd. I want you to get all the breaks you possibly can, but you need to realize that you cannot go around impersonating a police or security officer. Use the badge to get that little extra measure of acceptance when you mess up and don't button your jacket, but do not ever flash the badge or use it to identify yourself as anything other than Joe Citizen. In addition to the top quality CCW Badge we also offer a leather belt holder for the badge on the CCW Badge Page in the Online Store. CCW Badge is gold plated with a Perma-Shine finish, California Eagle Style with single pin on back closed by a safety catch. Badge reads "Concealed Weapons Permit" with the Justice shield in center of badge.

How many of you have this or something similar? Would you ever consider it if you don't? Would you recommend yes or no for something like this? I am just curious....it does make sense - I think.

Please let me know what your thoughts are....

longhorn_92, obviously you are new to these parts! This is one topic that rears it's ugly head every several months. The short answer is that they are a very bad idea and yes, you will be wasting your money.

If you do a search, you'll see that this has been discussed at GREAT LENGTH several times on this forum.

AEA wrote:The topic is of course a laughing joke on this forum and on many others. It is the general consensus of License Holders that a badge is not necessary or desirable. In some States, I believe it is actually against the Law.

The original idea behind a CHL Badge was that if/when you were in a shooting situation and you were still shooting or otherwise active with the handgun when LEO's arrived, you could "Flash the Badge" and that would identify you as a "Good Guy" to the responding LEO's. You would then have less of a chance of being mistaken for one of the bad guys and being shot by responding Officers.
It sounded like a good idea at first, but it was always possible that you would be charged as impersonating a LEO later on. Just something else to add to the trouble you will go through for wasting that scum in the first place!

That being said, I have not read one report where a License Holder flashed a badge or where one was charged if they did. Florida may be a better test case as they have been in the License business far longer than Texas.

I actually have a CHL Badge! Yes.....I will admit it.......
But, I do not carry it.
It is only a Novelty Item that is in my Gun Safe.
Why.....????
Because I want it. Why not????

I like this one:

Ok- Hopefully someone in the future will do a better search before they ever post a question about the Badge of Dis-Honor.....

No stupid questions - you learned. That made it a great question to ask and satisfies our March (and hopefully April as well) CHL badge thread quota.

LOL, longhorn. Nuts wear guns. Fruitcakes wear CCW badges. Actually, I suppose there cold be some merit to being able to flash an official looking badge at select times if it can keep you from getting shot by mistake when the cops arrive, confused and foaming at the mouth for a bad guy. I'd a whole lot rather get charged with impersonating a police officer than shot by mistake. If the Supreme Court rules for individual gun rights in the Heller case, it is quite likely to become mandatory that all gun carriers complete a weapons training course and be issued some type of badge to carry hidden as a ready means of identification as a "friendly." This also gives off the aura of the beginning of a militia, which might assuage the anti's somewhat of their impending loss in Heller v. D.C. :smash:

Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW)---the key word is Concealed. The other key word is Carry--in that, the only one that should know you are carrying is YOU. Having a badge negates that. Pretty simple.

 I forgot about that.

We joke a lot but I hope you will continue to ask questions if you have them. There are some very smart and very knowledgeable people on this site and asking is how we all learn. I find I learn about things I never thought of even asking because someone asked. :thumbs2:
