DC Rejects Handgun Application

Not sure if this is the appropriate forum or not, but here it is...

Linkey
WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- District residents can start registering their guns today. But at least one very high profile application was already rejected.

Dick Heller is the man who brought the lawsuit against the District's 32-year-old ban on handguns. He was among the first in line Thursday morning to apply for a handgun permit.

But when he tried to register his semi-automatic weapon, he says he was rejected. He says his gun has seven bullet clip. Heller says the City Council legislation allows weapons with fewer than eleven bullets in the clip. A spokesman for the DC Police says the gun was a bottom-loading weapon, and according to their interpretation, all bottom-loading guns are outlawed because they are grouped with machine guns.

Besides obtaining paperwork to buy new handguns, residents also can register firearms they've had illegally under a 180-day amnesty period.

Though residents will be allowed to begin applying for handgun permits, city officials have said the entire process could take weeks or months.
So... they permit 10 round magazines, but not pistols that load those magazines through the bottom. Just which 10 round magazines did they have in mind?

I hope he does. It will be a perfect test of the "reasonableness" of the DC laws in the first place.

According to Of Arms and the Law he's going to be back tomorrow to register a revolver.

And what of the semi auto that he tried to license?

Isn't it now an illegal handgun by DC ordinances?

Wonder if they gave any thought to arresting Heller?

Found this on another (non gun related, and mostly liberal) forum, and couldn't word it any better.

Let them whine all they want, they're just making it easier for us quicker.

"Assuming that Heller is not disqualified
from the exercise of Second Amendment rights, the District
must permit him to register his handgun and must
issue him a license to carry it in the home."

Emphasis mine.

I am tempted to type this in bold, caps and anything else i could to convey the intensity of my outrage. I can not imagine the arrogance needed to refuse to comply with an order of the Supreme Court of the United States of America.

Ok, according to Xanders link hellers hand gun in question was a .38 revolver so the decision does not apply. If at least one of the plaintiffs did not have a semi-auto then i will not be happy.

According to a different article I read (which I do not have at my fingertips), Heller's handguns are stored in Maryland, and his attorney (not Gura et al, different guy) advised him to NOT take his handgun(s) to the police station the first time. Since semi-autos have been, and apparently still are, illegal in DC, I'm sure that's why his lawyer told him to go without it. His lawyer also accompanied him.

The same article I reference above said Heller has a .45 semi-auto and a .22 revolver. He first tried to register the semi-auto on the first day of registration. The article said he would come back the next day to register the revolver instead. Note D.C.'s new version of the law limits residents to registering only one handgun in the first 90 days.

I would love to see all the smart people find employment elsewhere and leave DC to the people who think police can save them and gangsters who rape plunder and pillage at will,

Probably broomhandle Mausers, Radoms, and a few of the others that load from the top or side. "rlol"

Actually, since DC has pretty much announced that ALL semi-autos are banned, it would be interesting to see someone try to register one of the above and see how DC tries to avoid it.
