My first story that just happened!

First off I just want to say hello to all. I have been reading all over this forum non-stop for the past week and have become addicted.

Now on to what just happened to me..... About 30 minutes ago I was sitting here on the computer reading through some threads when all of a sudden I hear banging. At first I think its just one the neighbors leaving the neighborhood with their music turned up. Then it happens again and it finally hits me that the banging is on our front door! I think to myself that no one should be pounding on my door this late and if it was any of my friends or family they would have called first. So I jump up from the computer here in the bedroom and throw on my shorts while loading my .410, that I just brought home tonight from my parent's house luckily, at the same time. My girlfriend is still asleep but finally woke up as I reached for the box of shells next to her. Her eyes were wide open seeing me with my shotgun in one hand and reaching for my Taurus PT145 with the other. She asked what is going on and I said there is someone pounding on the front door. I hand her the pistol and head to the door with my shotgun. Finally my dog, who must be deaf, barks when they pound again. I get to the door and yell through it to the guy on the other side "What do you want?" At first I thought it was someone saying something about drugs so I immediately get ready to call the police but then he says it again, "Im here for the Scion TC, is there anything inside of it that you want to take out?" So I ask who he is and why he was here for the car. He just gave me same answer and asked if my girlfriend was home. I finally said yes and hold on. I went and told her that the repo guys are here for her car so she goes outside to start taking stuff out. I take my pistol and put it in my pocket for a just in case measure. Luckily the guy turned out to be a nice guy and was somewhat helpful but I feel that he could have at least told me who he was and why he wanted the car. Am I wrong for assuming that? Do you think I responded appropriately?

I also have a couple of other stories that I will share in the next few days.

Thats about how I would have reacted myself. Be thankful that he was nice enough to knock and not just take off with the car. Most wouldnt have done that for you.

Moral of the story: Pay your car note or open yourself to a midnight visitor towing it out of your driveway. :coolgleamA:

1. Fire the dog.
2. Find a woman that can support you and herself.

Thanks for the responses. I was actually telling my dog she was fired last night. This is not the first time that she didn't hear someone at the front door. Just last friday I was sitting in here in the bedroom door slightly closed and the front door open but the screen closed. So it was obvious that I was home but someone was not smart enough to figure that out. While watching tv I hear the screen door close and I think "No one is supposed to be coming in this house right now." So I start to reach for my pistol when I decide to make sure its not my girlfriend's mom. When I peek out of the bedroom I don't see anyone so I brush it off to the wind hitting the screen door. Well shortly after I am leaving to go shooting at Bass Pro when I notice a piece of paper laying on the floor. Well it turns out that the noise I heard was the screen door closing because whoever the water company had putting out these notices decided to just open my door and put it inside instead of knocking :mad5 . I was so mad and called the water company and made a complaint demanding that they have a serious talk with the people putting out the notices.

That's usually SOP for them. If the owner is asleep or busy at work, they won't put up much of a fight. I, too, am surprised that the repo man gave you a chance to get anything out of the car. Usually the (now former) owner wakes up to find the car is gone.

There was an attempted scam on someone at my workplace some time ago that this reminded me of. He owns a F250 and its 1130 at night and two guys start banging on the door saying they are going to repo his truck. Funny thing is he's had the the truck paid off for some time, so immediately he knew it was a scam. They keep threatening him saying they are armed, but they dont try any forceful entry. Guy calls the cops and they come within 5 minutes. Explains to the cops whats going on, guys all stuttering cant get story straight apparently they had a clipboard of papers but on closer examination its just a stack of crap to make it look like important papers. They were arrested for criminal trespass and other things. It was an attempted scam to steal the F250. They have a high theft rate.

I guess other people have fallen for a repo theft scam

I have done a few repo's. You should consider yourself lucky he was knocking. You should also consider getting another dog. Go to the pound and get a large mut with a deep bark.

We definitely consider ourselves lucky that he knocked. He told us that he does that for everyone. About the dog issue, my dog (a boxer/pit bull mix) does have a pretty deep and scary bark (from the pit bull side I'm pretty sure) when she does use it. When I used to live at my parents house the neighborhood kids would be scared to come to the door to ask for my brother. They would knock and then run out to the street. It was always funny! Now here living with my girlfriend she is very protective when she is outside in the yard. She makes sure that nobody comes close to the fence or gate without us knowing about it. I just gotta make sure that she starts listening more when we are sleeping. I would leave our bedroom door open at night but with the fish tanks we have in the living room its too noisy. I hope she gets better at listening since I am heading back to college this weekend and it will just be my girlfriend and the dog.

If I still had my F250, V-10 I would've BEGGED them to take it. I loved the vehicle but couldn't pass a gas station. I sold it when gas was about $2.50 a gallon.
