Why is this any problem? Previously, Colin Powell & Condelesa Rice have been called Aunt Jemima & Uncle Tom. Why do "words" bother some people so much & others pay them no mind?
I used to work with a young man that went off one day when I used the word, "boy". It wasn't meant to be hatefull or such. I said it with a "you're being immature about this" meaning. Needless to say, all he heard was "BOY" and that was it. It took several minutes to calm him down and even ask, "What did I say?" We took a long walk and straightened everything out between us. We were the best of friends for the remaining time we worked together.
Always found it ironic that he introduced me to everyone he knew as his "red-neck friend".
Words only hold the power that we give to them.

The question still remains, Why is is inappropriate to call a person "Uncle Tom" and it isnt inappropriate to call them "African American". Heres the deal, alot of the Blacks' family trees arent from Africa, some are from Jamaca or other parts of the world Respectfully, so the ones whos roots arent from Africa are being mis- labeled in the first place, isnt that wrong too. Also, if you live in the United States and lets say your roots are from Africa you arent an "African American" you ARE an American from Africa, there should never be a country name before America!! The "name calling" weather its cracker or honkey or whatever people may call someone from another culture shouldnt matter, peoples skin needs to be a little thicker, lets face it we have BIGGER PROBLEMS here in the U.S., right now. Political correctness is one of the things killing our troops in Iraq, we follow the "rules" and the other guys dont. As Americans we need to be ALL on the same side!!!
