I know that TX has reciprocity with LA but I was curious as to the 50% sign for bars etc and if there are any restrictions to carrying in places that sell Alcohol. I am asking specifically about the House of Blues in New Orleans, I am going to be there for the KWS show Friday night and was wondering if its legal to carry inside the HoB.

Keep in mind that the 51% rule is for Texas, but not necessarily in Louisiana. I recommend this site:

Right, I was just using that 51% as an example, but thanks for the link, it appears that if they have a license to sell alcohol for consumption on the premises that its illegal to carry.

Don't think so. As I remember it, the LA law makes reference to a specific named class on the license. After looking up that specific license classification, I came the conclusion that:
1. You CAN carry into alcohol serving restaurants (Chili's, Red Lobster, etc.)
2. You CANNOT carry in alcohol serving places with a minimum age = 21 req for entry
In other words, no carry in true "bars", ie pretty much the same as TX w/o the 51% criteria. Do a search in this subforum and you could probably find the old thread.

I also believe House of Blues frowns upon anyone carrying.

Personally, I don't think I'd want to go to New Orleans without close air support!

LOL they can frown all they want, if I am operating within the confines of the law there isnt anything they can do about it

TSRA's magazine once quoted one of Louisiana's legislatures speaking in favor of their CHL laws as saying, (paraphrased, but the "patois" was in the original):
"I always carries me a gun when I travel around Louisiana; when I goes to New Orleans, I carries me TWO guns..."
