Is there a rifle range in the Houston area that will allow semi-auto fire or rapid fire. I don't want to bump fire or anything, but I would like to shoot a little faster than ASC will allow.

The Pasadena Gun Center allows rapid fire, and drawing from a holster.

Does anyone know of one around Fort Worth? I normally go to Alpine, but with it being hunting season, and me being a young guy with non-hunting evil looking rifles, I seem to get talked down to. Plus I'd like to shoot some silhouette, and faster than once every 2 seconds.

About the only option you have in Fort Worth for controlled rapid fire is Winchester Gallery, but they only have 2 rifle lanes and theyre usually packed.

While its not exactly in Fort Worth, TacPro in Mingus, TX allows pretty much anything, provided its done safely. Rapid fire, drawing from holsters, 3 gun, sub gun, rifle from bench, sitting, standing, prone, reactionary targets, even tracers. I live on the north side of FW and it takes me about 50 minutes to get there but I think its well worth the drive.

Went shooting at DFW Gun Range (http://www.dfwgun.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) last Friday night. Shot a plethora of handguns and also my full-auto. You can shoot rifles there - although I never have.

PSC Shooting Club, Inc. on FM528 in Friendswood. It's a membership club with annual dues of $150.

Why is Fort Worth so hard to shoot in? For such a big city you'd think more ranges would be around, I'll check out those two though, thanks!

I don't think the impactzone is interested in new members or they just don't check their email because I have tried several times to contact them about a membership or match info. All with NO response. I am still looking for a more tactical environment to practice shooting. I am willing to join a club or become a member of an organization. No such luck?

I've been to Thunder Ranch a few times which is at 17234 FM 1314 in Conroe. Thunder Ranch is actually my favorite outdoor range because of the pistol area. I shoot my AR rapid fire from time to time and was never called on it. I'm more of a pistol shooter anyway so my few times AR plinking may not reflect what their actual rules are. I've observed that they do enforce the rules they have so I'm sure it's ok as long as the shooter is being safe about it. The people there are very nice and professional and it's never been crowded when I've gone.

I like the pistol area because even though it's outdoors, they have a manual pulley system for setting targets and it's the only outdoor range I've been to that does.

My advice is to show up and shoot WHIDPA IDPA or 3-gun matches at Impact Zone. Meet the folks, and ask about membership at the range. Phil (to my knowledge) isn't limiting memberships, but he wants to make certain new members are safe and serious shooters. Best way to get that intro is to show up and shoot! Besides, it's fun.

When I shot at DFW Gun Range, I was REQUIRED to verbally say, "I WILL NOT RAPID FIRE." This was about 2 months ago.

Funny, almost.

I have shot there a few times. Last time I went I told the young guy I need a lane where I can draw from a holster. He kinda looked at me, then asked if I am LE. I said no, then added I have a CHL and I shoot IDPA, yada yada. He kinda stood there for a minute, so I said jokingly I promise not to shoot myself. He said he was more worried about me shooting his equipment (not sure what that means). So I ask, do folks normally shoot the equipment? And he says, more cops than you would imagine. Me: Huh? In the end I did my shooting, from holster, some "rapid fire," and no I did not shoot any equipment, myself or anyone else. That episode reminds me of why I like to shoot at a private location, or shoot IDPA so I can draw and shoot on the move, etc.

By the way, when I was leaving one of the older dudes who I think teaches classes there and who wears a CBP hat was going to "instruct" some folks on the deployment of a shotgun and when he picked one up off the rack to check to see if it was loaded he canted the shotgun about 45 degrees at which point the muzzle was pointing in the face of the lady he was going to "instruct." I can't tell you how much I cringed at that point and thought what an idiot (actually I thought of a worse name).

Haven't been back there.

I always bring up the "I WILL NOT RAPID FIRE" part to the guys behind the counter...usually along the lines of "well, you know I'm shooting full-auto...right?" and I've never had a problem, I also do double-taps and such, same with folks around me, no issues.
