I went shooting with a friend at Shiloh in Houston last Friday to break-in my Glock 27 and XD40. My primary concern was that the sub-compact Glock would prove to be difficult to fire due to its size.
Fortunately we both fired off 25 rounds in each weapon and found it to be entirely satisfactory with one noticeable exception: it seemed like every 3 rounds on the G27, a casing would pop off of our noggins (not just me, both of us). We both had nice tight groups on the target, but we each commented to one another about this strange phenomenon.
Would anyone care to conjecture what we were obviously both doing wrong?

As a side note, the XD40 was extremely easy to fire. I was quite pleased with it.

What ammo are you using? I would guess, either Monarch or reloads?

Winchester Personal Protection, 50 round box.

Surely not I thought only Kimbers did this....

Are you talking about the JHP "Winchester White Box" ammo? If so, then I don't know why the brass is hitting you in the head :)

maybe limp wristing that third shot? just a suggestion.
maybe a stronger recoil spring would help.

I thought about the limp-wristing (small paws) immediately, but two factors tend to discount this:

1) both of us were getting the same results

2) we both had nice tight groups

If limp-wristing were indeed the case, wouldn't that show up in our shot placement?

I honestly don't know if it would, as the action is occuring after the bullet has exited the barrel (presumbably, although I am not certain of that).
I do know this, if I limp wrist my 4" 1911, (yes it's a Kimber, you guys ), that brass will come straight back at me.
or at the poor guy running the timer in IDPA....
it'll still eject, and the recoil spring (I think it's a 50# spring! ) will chamber the next round, but that brass comes after ya with a vengeance!

I am pretty sure that it is not hitting a wall or overhead, as it bounces off my noggin with a vengeance. Should I find a gunsmith and describe the problem?

Just referencing the previous thread about the 1911's and Kimbers. The jury is still out on mine. One out of the first 100 hit me in the forehead. The next 100 went ok. I'm still pretty new to this, but I sure do like the Kimber so far.

I have never had tis problem arise with my Kimber. Look for another answer.

If brass is smacking you in the forehead, it might just be your stance. Many shooters (especially new ones) start to lean back as soon as the brass starts coming back at them.

If you keep your weight on the balls of your feet and lean forward in a more aggressive stance, the brass will probably fly over your head. If that doesn't fix it, get a cap.

I wasn't kidding. My Kimber Custom II Target throws empties everywhere including at me. Neither my PT 1911 nor my XD Service behaves in such a rude manner. You reckon this could be due to the Kimber being made by yankees as opposed to Filipinos or Croats?
