Couldn't Get It Done

I am a little ashamed to make this post post but here goes...
We went to our little ranch for a final hunt and to close up the joint for the year. We went for an "informal" hunting expedition, and low and behold I had two pigs come our at about 1740. Long story short, I picked the calico pig, his buddy was a red, and completely missed the bugger. I think I closed my eyes just as the shot broke and missed him high and to the left. I determined this after a through investigation of the scene where I found a large hole in the ground accompanied by several lead stained rocks.
In seventeen seasons of hunting this is the first animal I have missed and I am a little down on myself but I am chalking it up to experience and now me and piggy have a date for later on this year. Below are the pics from the game camera.

Piggy

Candid dejection
Add 9 years, a day and 13 hours to the dates on the pic.

Classic set up, post deer season. Since there's no season or limit on those little buggers, get back out there and cap him. Hogs are a blast and danged tasty. You'll getcha' one eventually and probably see many more of its relatives. Good luck. I'm envious.

I don't have any pics but a friend and I went up to Oklahoma a few weekends ago to hog hunt with similar results. We saw hog signs everywhere but only put eyes on one. It was a large one but the problem was it was about 250 yards away. To make things worse we had to shoot over a river, across a field and through some timber into another clearing where the hog was. If that's not bad enough it had to be a standing shot because of the terrain and we didn't have anything to brace the gun with like a tree or shooting sticks. Needless to say we took the shot but it went over the back and that was the only hog we saw the whole weekend!! Oh well ~ it was still a great weekend.

I wish I had Hogs on my place, but I wouldn't feel to bad- we all miss one sooner or later
