Im leaning towards a kimber, i will be posting my ar15 and possibly my xd9 up for sale as soon as I have enought posts. I have been lurking for a year or two and have even made it to Charles defense in texas class.
This will become my primary carry along with a p3at and a bersa thunder 9, maybe all at the same time depending where im working that day!
I believe I would like something in a 4 inch

Welcome to the cult!
Many of us carry Kimbers as our primary carry weapon. Color mine a Stainless Ultra Carry II. What a great little pistol!
Don't know about carrying 3 guns though. Feel free if you have enough pockets, but I predict you'll get tired of hauling all the hardware around after a while - what with extra magazines, etc.
Although some members here carry a backup gun, I personally don't. I carry the one, plus I carry 1, sometimes 2, extra magazines for my Kimber, plus a good pocket knife, and I feel pretty comfortable with that. Any place where I would need to carry 3 guns is not any place that I need to be at - but that's just me.
BTW, I would recommend keeping the AR for now. They are getting harder and harder to obtain these days. It might be a really long time before you can afford another one. Sell the XD and throw in some cash, and you can probably afford a used Kimber in good condition. They aren't as hard to find as an AR.

i know what you mean. the ar has been in the closet since jan 08, except when i cleaned it in prep for the hurricane. I was discussing a safe witht eh wife and she suggested selling the ar to buy the safe. my comment was, if i sold the ar i wouldnt need a safe!
anyway ive been in a selling mood lately as I have my first child on the way and prefer to pay cash for things these days. i think this weekend will be a cleaning and picture taking session of all the harley parts and spare electronics laying around.

Big fan of Kimber. For price to performance out the box, it's a great 1911. They were discussed in the following thread pretty extensively:

There are better and more expensive 1911's out there, but if you got a Kimber, you won't be steered wrong. I have three of them myself.

I'm protective of them like they were my children! But since you're wondering, here are a couple of pics of the kids:

I went with the Eclipse Ultra Carry. I could not be happier. The gun is very accurate for a 3" barrel. You will be very happy with a Kimber anything.

I have the Kimber Tactical Ultra Carry, Ultra Carry II, and CDP II, as everyone else has said you cannot go wrong with a Kimber. Never had a problem with any of mine. Good Luck

I actually LOVE Kimbers,.........but.......
I owned several models and sold them all........
I have not owned a Full Sized Model, but if I did, I would probably still have it. Reason why I don't have any of the others is because of the inability to change out the FLGR on bushingless barreled models.
The fit and finish on Kimbers are superb. Their C/S has been good with the exception of the External Extractor days where it took them awhile to realize and admit there was a problem.

No kidding. I think they went through 4 generations of external extractors before they just decided to go back to internal ones. They were pretty stubborn about that. They did the externals to be more cost efficient. In the long run, I suppose it ended up being quite the opposite for them. Besides the internals give a much cleaner look.

If you can find one, take a look at the Dan Wesson Classic Commander Bobtail (CBOB). It's a Stainless 4.25" Series 70 with a Bobtail grip, excellent carry gun and fit and finish are up there with the customs. No MIM parts and even has some Ed Brown parts on it. It'll also cost you a few bucks less than a Kimber.
