This is really stupid. What has carry in national parks got to do with consumer credit card rights? If a bill can't stand on it's own two feet and get passed, it shouldn't become law. And the last thing you need in a national park when a bear or mountain lion is coming at you is a concealed handgun when you should be open carrying a rifle, shotgun or large caliber handgun. This is an absolutely idiotic piece of legislation of little consequence, a leftover of the brain dead Bush administration brought back to life by a brain challenged Obama administration and it's lackey congressional majority.

With the right rig and shirt, a large caliber handgun can be concealed.

I believe that most of the members on this board consider the passage of this
law to be a great common sense success for our Second Amendment rights.

The gun bill had nothing to do with the credit card bill, but I don't care how our
gun rights supporting legislators got it passed. They got it passed.

I also look upon this particular piece of legislation as a wakeup call to the
anti's that NRA supporters will take them to the woodshed if they try to
infringe on our 2A rights.

I am more concerned about the two legged variety that may be roaming the park with bad intentions.

I for one am more concerned with my ability to protect myself and my family from the 2 legged predators than a bear or a mountain lion. I despise the very concept of gun free zones.

I applaud our legislators for overriding the ruling of an activist judge that deemed the Bush administation rule did not follow the appropriate environmental assessment guidelines for allowing guns in National Parks.

+1 It was my understanding that, as currently interpreted, the Federal ban on guns in national parks included any gun of any kind in your car. Just passing through on a long road trip? Better find an alternate route.

Now we can all experience the joys of our wonderful National Park system. I might drive out to Big Bend again soon.

Does this go for all National Parks? What if Im in a park in say, New Jersey or California, God forbid, and I want to carry? Will federal law trump state law and allow me to carry in the park?

IDK about the current bill but the previous version allowed carry in NP if it's legal in that state. An interesting twist is some states allow open carry in rural areas and many National Parks are out in the boonies, so it will be interesting what it actually says. News stories mention rifles so open carry may be included as well. The rule killed by the judge was concealed only IIRC, so it would be delicious if this goes even further than the rule they killed through judicial activism.

I'll bet what Gibbs really said was something more like "Ummmm.........................the President.....................ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm............." The guy is painful to listen to.

I wonder how Obama's anti-2A base will take the news that he's expanding the rights of gun owners. "Oh, but he didn't want to, he had to, the evil Republicans tied it to an important bill that further restricts free enterprise".

Wow! I don't do well reading legalese, but it sure looks like the new rules basically just say the states gun laws also carry over too the National Parks and Wildlife areas. So we can take our AK 47 down to the National Parks. also .. The new law basically says gun laws that apply outside the fence will apply inside the fence.

Do you really mean that? I don't conceal carry in order to protect myself from Mountain Lion's and Bear's. I carry in order to protect myself from Human predators. That would include National Parks.

Wonder how many more times this is gonna have to be passed?

And, I don't like the way they tacked it onto a credit card revamp either!
The reason why is if they can tack this on like they did, what else can they tack onto other bills to hack away at our rights?

Makes me wonder why they did not "attach" something to the Stimulus bill which would have passed easily since no one has actually read the Stimulus bill!
