This about it the next time you want to intervene in a 3rd party encounter.

A Carollton man was shot to death while trying to intervene in an argument Monday evening in the parking lot of fast food restaurant in northwest Dallas, police said.

Leonard Richardson, 27, was pronounced dead 7:15 p.m. outside the Dairy Queen near the intersection of Rosemeade Parkway and Marsh Lane, according to reports.

Richardson, accompanied by his wife, his mother and another person, arrived at the restaurant where they parked their vehicle, said Sgt. Gene Reyes, Dallas homicide detective.

The group, he added, planned to walk to a nearby apartment complex to go swimming, Reyes said.

Richardson, however, noticed another group of people arguing in the parking lot and he intervened, Reyes said.

"I guess he didn't like the way they were carrying on," Reyes said.

But members of the group turned on Richardson and started beating him, Reyes said.

"Then someone pulls a gun and shoots him," the detective said.

Several witnesses were interviewed by detectives, who heard more than one interpretation of what happened, Reyes said.

"Our story is a lot clearer now," Reyes said Tuesday morning.

A suspect was identified and detectives were preparing a warrant Tuesday morning, but no arrests were reported by 9:30 a.m.

I used to live over there at Rosemeade & Midway. That area has really turned to seed in the last 5-6 years. I stopped at a convenience store there a couple of months ago and was surprised to find bullet proof glass at the register.

Good reason to stay out of other people's business.

Yepper, MYOB. If you don't like what's going on, use your cellphone. Everyone has one, don't they?

I agree. Sounds like there might be more to this than reported. Why would he interfere into something that probably wasn't his business and he was clearly outnumbered?

In hindsight, he made a bad decision, but maybe he was just a decent guy who tried to help out some people who were in distress. And no, not all people have cellphones.

They don't? It seems that everyone at every intersection I stop at has one. All the younger folk stare at theirs as if willing it to do something. So, I assumed everyone has one. What a D.A. I must be? :banghead:

Maybe it's related to him parking in a restaurant parking lot but not eating there. :headscratch

well, he was going next door to the Apt Complex he didn't live at to go swimming in the pool he didn't have access to...
"I guess he didn't like the way they were carrying on," Reyes said.
doesn't sound like he was intervening, so much as he was getting in the middle of something that may have been sinister in nature to begin with.

Horrible news everyone. It turns out that this guy was the Grandson of a friend of mine. Understandably, he's really torn up over this. I did not know his Grandson. If I find out anything more I'll let you all know.

Sorry to hear that, C-dub, keep us informed if you find out anything, in the mean time, I will be praying for his family.

Not everyone has a cell phone - just everyone driving.
