The latest Guns & Ammo issue of Handgun Magazine has a pretty nice review of the new Para Ordnance GI Expert .45ACP 1911. Has annyone had any experiance with this particular pistol or Para in general they would like to share?

I own a Para, single stack SSP model that I purchased at Academy. It is an excellant shooting gun. I would not hesitate in purchasing the GI expert.

I bought one for my dad a few weeks ago as a birthday/fathers day present. (His birthday is June 22.) I wish I could give you a report, but since we have only one box of ammo, we haven't gone to shoot it.

I can tell you that I bought it because one of my coworkers, who owns several 1911s, saw it at Academy and was very impressed with it, especially for the price. He told me if I didn't buy it, he would, and since it was priced within my budget, I did. We haven't seen another one at that Academy (Pearland) since.

I'll post something about it as soon as I can get enough ammo to make it worthwhile for my dad and I to go shoot it.

Thanks for the reply. Will be looking forward to your report once you get to shoot it. I've got the same problem with a Taurus PT145 Pro I bought about a month ago but have only put 50 rounds through it due to lack of .45ACP. I did find two boxes of FMJ at Collector's Firearms two weeks ago (Magtech for $23.99 / 50 RD box).

Bailey's House of Guns had some ammo when I stopped by last weekend.

It looks like the GI Expert and future models will be built in the US instead of Canada:
