7 year sentence for Reckless Shooting

Incredible lack of awareness of gun safety. I wonder if the family got this gun after the little brother was killed in the home invasion. Buying a gun and not training all in the house to know gun safety is a formula for disaster. It is very sad for that mom to have her youngest dead and then soon after to see another son in prison for 7 years of his young life. The sentence seems a bit harsh to me.

Someone who sentenced to some number of years could serve 1/3 of the time in prison. They get time off for good behavior and sometimes are released early because of overcrowding.

Isn't it 1/3 of the time off the sentence? I thought one would still serve 2/3 of a sentence.

I don't know the details.

I read all the time about criminals who have multiple felony sentences within 10 or 15 years and are still on the street. I'm talking about men who are 25 or 30 years old and could not have served a lengthy adult sentence.

That sentance doesn't seem harsh to me. The person he killed had a family too. This guy pointed a gun at another person's head and pulled the trigger.

My sister in law was killed by a drunk driver in 2003. He plead out for 5 years and was released this year (after going to OK ., using another fake ID - did I mention he was 19 at the time?). He was refused prole/probation at the 3 year mark due to my letter. My family was forever changed by decisions both he and she made. I was ACTIVE in his serving his FULL term. Most are not. Kinda like your rights...if you don't SQUEEK, you get NO GREASE.

Yes, KRM45, you do have a point. I guess I was mostly thinking of the kid's mom. The whole thing is awful any way you look at it.
