MIDLAND, Texas - A Texas sheriff fired one deputy and suspended three others without pay after a scantily dressed waitress holding a rifle posed for photographs on the hood of a patrol vehicle.

Police said Round Rock officers were dispatched to a restaurant after someone reported the waitress with the weapon, which had been given to her by one of the Midland County deputies who had been attending a training session near Austin.

The incident occurred last week in the parking lot of a Twin Peaks restaurant, which promotes its "fun, friendly and sometimes flirty atmosphere!"

I would imagine if these guys are married, they're really getting an earfull tonight!! So much for open carry of a rifle, huh? Guess it makes a big difference when it's the department rifle!!

I read the article twice and it doesn't look like anyone was charged with a crime.

These were Midland Co. deputies if I am not mistaken and round rock SO/PD (I forget which) and county atty. were "investigating" the four midland deputies while considering disorderly conduct charges. This was the last I knew of this matter.

How can it be disorderly if nobody notices or cares but cops and jealous tattletales?

No one has been charged, but it seems that someone called the police about a (scantily clad) woman with a gun.

"Dudes! You gotta come see this! It's like an Oleg Volk photo shoot in person!"

I doubt a "crime" was committed, but as an LEO and employee of the taxpayers of your area, you need to utilize just a few more brain cells than were exhibited with this little photo shoot. I have no problem with taking photos of pretty girls, even pretty girls with firearms sitting on top of cars. But that's not YOUR firearm, nor YOUR car and SOME of the taxpayers who do own that weapon and that car DO have a problem with such things.

They deserve to be fired/suspended for this, IMHO.

Williamson County is tough enough as it is. Why set one's self up for certain failure by using bad judgment?

I'll have to agree that I don't think a crime was committed, but the deputies in question embarrassed their department and sheriff. I would think that they also violated department policy when releasing control of a department firearm to a citizen. :rules:

BTW: If anybody has a higher resolution copy of the photo, I'd certainly like to study the "evidence" in much closer detail.

I don't think anyone needed to be fired over this.

Considering the misconduct that officers can get away with, this is nothing.

I certainly cannot blame a deputy for wanting to take a picture of an attractive woman holding an M-4. I'd probably have cleared the weapon first though.

The officers probably deserved a repremand, but not to be fired. Honestly, I'd have spun this as community relations or something positive.

I can understand some folks getting upset, but getting fired seems way too out of line for this.

There is some speculation (and I must say it is likely only speculation) that the officer fired might have already had a history of poor decisions, and this incident was "the straw that broke the camel's back" as it were.
