Guys,

While debating legal carry with my 70 something step-father, he asserted that my gun is just going to be taken from me and used on me. I told him the 'ole "my gun'll be empty if it's taken" and he told me that a person would likely hit me on the head from behind and take my gun. I asked him, "Why would he know that I had a gun, and why in the world would an unarmed man attack an armed man??" By this logic a Loomis driver or cop should never carry a gun for fear of being whacked over the head, robbed of their gun, and shot.

I think anti-gun people think that criminals never have guns until they are fortunate enough to stumble upon a person who legally owns one for them to steal; then BAM it the legal possessor's fault when any gun crime happens.

I understand that the decision to pull the trigger is very difficult and I won't know until the situation presents itself to me how I will respond. I do, however, believe that a bad guy going for my gun will be the easiest decision scenario possible, because: he will kill me, and I'm not going to miss, or hit a bystander at that range.

IMO, for a person who hasn't made "the decision" beforehand, this is not a Bone-Head argument. If a person hasn't made "the decision" they shouldn't be carrying because having the gun taken from them is a real possiblity.

The assertion that an unarmed criminal will, with prior knowledge that the concealed carrier is carrying, attempt to hit him over the head and reach into his pocket, or concealed holster to acquire a weapon is a bone-head argument any way you look at it. Unless of course one agrees that law enforcement, Loomis drivers, and concealed handgun licensees are better off not making themselves a target by carrying a firearm. The belief that unarmed criminals acquire guns exclusively from legal carriers is one of the many emotionally based opinions that anti-gun people assert out of fear and ignorance.

I should have been more clear. I agree that this scenario would not happen. I was referring an untrained person who may have access to a gun and just stand there holding it or fumbling around while the BG is standing close to them. It is a different case for the trained CHL, LEO or Loomis guard who, presumably, would shoot.

I find that laughter is a good response to bone-head arguments.

I'm not his stepdad, but I love to argue. Sometimes I'll take a point of view not my own, just so I can argue.

I pull my SIL's chain all the time. Now you could ask him to show it how to do it and kick his butt. Especially if you like dog biscuts.

You think that one is dumb. The controller who works for me said he was worried that our guys would shoot each other if they got mad, now that they have a CHL...LOL. He really said that!!! I swear to god!!! I was stunned that this normally intelligent human being could say something so darned stupid.
