The British government has decided to go ahead with its plans under what it calls the Intercept Modernisation Programme to force every telecommunication company and Internet service provider to keep a record of all of its customers' personal communications, showing who they have contacted, when and where, as well as the web sites they have visited, according to the London Telegraph and various other British papers.
The information gathered, the Telegraph says, will be able to be accessed by 653 public bodies, "including police, local councils, the Financial Services Authority, the ambulance service, fire authorities and even prison governors."
"They will not require the permission of a judge or a magistrate to obtain the information, but simply the authorisation of a senior police officer or the equivalent of a deputy head of department at a local authority," the Telegraph says.

I can't tell if you're trying to be funny. These types of things went into effect under Bush as the Patriot Act.
If you have the time could you please explain what your "Bro. Obama" comment has to do with extreme government intrusion mentioned in the original post and the similar intrusions covered under the Bush Admin's Patriot Act.

Zee you are absolutely right. Although I am no fan of Bro. Obama, the NSA has been tapping into domestic communications for years, regardless of who is sitting in the Oval Office. Recommend reading James Bamford's "The Shadow Factory" which details the NSA's complete disregard of our rights afforded to us by the 4th Amendment.

The federal government's various entities are generally prohibited from
creating dossiers on US citizens.
The sleazy way that they get around this is that whenever the feds want
to know about a US citizen, the gummint goes to a private company that
DOES compile the information about US citizens. The company is Choicepoint.

When you use Google they save your searches forever, or close to it.
