Another reason to make sure your home is secure when you are home. The article stated that it appeared he never had a chance to even get his weapon. Very scary. Make sure all of your windows and doors are locked as well as staying armed.

While it is definitely concerning this does not look like a random crime.
1. Nothing was taken.
2. Suspect was dressed in black wearing mask.
3. Did not shoot the woman only the man.
4. Came in when obviously someone was home, lights and TV on, car parked on driveway etc.
5. Suspect was arrested on narcotic violation.

How many of you carry when you go out in the dark in the morning to bring in the paper? The alarm is usually turned off. Easy for BG to walk you inside at gunpoint to start his activities.

I carry from the time I pull my pants on in the morning until I go to bed at night - and then the guns go on the night stand. I take the guns with me to the bathroom while I shower and brush my teeth. The only time I don't carry is at the gym. If I was just working out, I'd even consider carrying then - but somehow it just doesn't seem wise to carry when you're taking Krav Maga kicks.

I don't carry at work as it is not allowed. Otherwise, don't be surprised if you give me a hug and there is a bump on my belt whether I am at home or not. Even when I shutdown the doors and all locked in and dressed in pajamas watching TV, weapon available at all times and on head board when in bed. Others available as needed too. And yes, newpaper and garbage can pick up is protected as well. Shoot this time of year on my property the normal carry is swapped out for a 357 with snake shot because they are starting to stir here in the warm weather. So cutting grass it is on my hip.

Indeed. I carry from the time I put on my pants in the morning until I take them off for bed. I also perform a security check of every door and every window in the house, making sure they are locked, including the garage doors.....every night before I go to bed.
The article said the BG gained entrance to the house through an unlocked window. I'm wondering if the outcome would have been the same had all windows and doors been locked? I think perhaps not. If the BG were determined, it would have gained entrance anyway. But the breaking of glass would have alerted the homeowner and perhaps he could have reached his gun in time to defend himself.

This is exactly why I carry all the time, even at home. My holster is comfortable (crossbreed) so I don't get annoyed while sitting, but I mainly carry around the house because of stories like this. If you have to run to another room to grab you gun and the bad guy is between you and that room, then you are out of luck.
