Just got this from the TSRA email that DPS will no longer require photos and fingerprints for the renewal process. I'm assuming that DPS will send our existing prints for the FBI background check and in my case my the terrible photo on my current CHL license for my renewal coming this November. Other than the generic pdf flier from DPS does anyone have more info on this as the flier does not go into the minutiae of this change?

I thought my photo looked awful too but my wife said "no, that's you alright".

My CHL pic is actually really good. It's my DL that I want changed. Nothing like a wife beater, messy hair, shaggy facial hair, and an oval-shaped sunburn on my face to give an officer confidence that he's dealing with a GG.

I had just completed a 3 day motorcycle safety course, it was 8 am, laundry day, and I (erroneously) believed that they wouldn't need to take a new pic for adding that M to my license)

Maybe I wasn't clear. THIS thread is about applications. The link at the top references a thread that's talking about changes in instructor renewals. That's what I was talking about and not really interested in.

I'm asking if anyone has any details regarding the changes in applications as noted in the link that I posted.

WOW , kinda good news for renewals . In my mind you would think In theory since both the DPS and the FBI have our fingerprints from our apps. you would Think they would keep them so prints dont change and like our regular DL licence update the photo every so often.
I`ll be watching this for more updates....

Umm, I believe the fingerprint cards are shredded after the background check is complete. As I understand it, it is illegal to retain fingerprint info without a criminal record.

Then I'm confused. Quahog linked to a thread that was talking about changes to CHL application and processing, not to instructors. A poster early in that thread thought it referred to instructors, but he was mistaken. Those changes are the ones referenced in the DPS notice in your link.

My part was written before Charles told us about the changes at DPS. I DO understand that there are some changes in the works for instructors involving expanded use of DPS websites, but apparently that thread wasn't talking about those, but something that nobody (other than Charles) was aware of.

Does anybody know for sure? iIve seen this come up in a few threads but haven't seen a definitive answer.

Feds can't keep fingerprints, but I'm not sure what DPS does with the actual cards. The FBI just started allowing agencies to resubmit electronic fingerprints, instead of requiring a new card.
